I have a base 05 Vibe and looking into putting power door locks/power windows/auto dimming mirrors/heated mirrors! Currently I'm really interested in the power door lock and looking for some feedback/advice..I asked a bestbuy close to me and they charge over $450 for install. So looking at doing it myself (I read viscioussquirrel's post on his install - very intimidating but I'm up for the challenge! Though it looks like he's using an actual oem part vs. universal kit)Anyone has any experience with using MES power door lock kits? I've searched and found a couple of threads with mostly positive reviews from a few people who have done installs on Toyota Yaris and Tundra. Hoping to get feedback from Vibe owners out there. Also, I already have an aftermarket remote car starter with remote for unlocking power door locks - I'm assuming I can tap into my remote car starter to make these power door locks to keyless entry as well... though not sure where to start to figure out how to do this!I don't do much work on my vibe except for replacing factory HU with a JVC unit. For that install, I didn't have to do much electrical work since I was able to tap into the wires for the original factory hu. So I'm a novice when it comes to this stuff..I've been reading several post and found that in the instrument panel fuse block there's a fuse marked GAUGE which is for power windows/door locks/cruise/sunroof, etc. Also, there's a thing called Add-A-Circuit for easy electrical install. Since I currently don't have any of these power accessories (pwr doors & windows/cruise/sunroof), I'm assuming there will be enough juice there to add the MES power door lock system. Would I be able use one of these ADD-A-Circuit on the GAUGE fuse to power the MES power door lock kit?I'm intimidated to think of the other option of pulling a new line from the battery.Sorry in advance if some of these don't make any sense or seem stupid... again not much experience doing this stuff but would love to learn.Any feedback and info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Maybe it's time to trade it in on a model with all of this stuff (except for mirrors) installed at the factory?? In my experience a lot of after market accessories aren't worth the cash you lay out for them. They don't look or operate seamlessly like the factory units do.I'd never add that type of aftermarket stuff to one of my cars, and I've the skills to do the tasks.I am looking at the interior mirror though, putting in one with a compass built into it. There is a how to here on GenVibe for that.Dave
Yeah that would be nice... although lately I've been thinking that for my next new car - I would want it to be the car that I really want (and want to drive for at least 10+ yrs) vs. settling for the next economical car and keep buying new every 5yrs or so... even though it might cost more at first, it might be cheaper in the long run..in any case.. wife is at home on maternity leave and she's thinking she doesn't want to go back to work after so a new car that falls in the "I really want" category isn't the best move Power door is one of those things I thought I can always do without but with the little one now - it's a pain to unlock to the front doors first just so I can unlock the back doors!!! I love my vibe - the look, the high mpg, and the utility - I've been able to pack a tons of things on my vibe from patio furnitures to deck building materials, to multiple bikes... just wish I had the AWD, power doors/locks, heated mirrors, and higher ground clearance.

Go back and read what you just wrote and then come up a reason you are going to sink money into this car. This isn't the car you want at all! You could sell / trade and get something else easily for about the same price.Once the kids come you won't have money for toys or upgrades! Do it now, soon you'll have a 2nd one and you'll be buying diapers, food, clothes, toys, shoes, diapers, doctors new cars, diapers, dentist, school supplies, if its a girl....clothes and clothes and clothes and shoes!!Dave
