Dealer Insists '09 Vibe AWD Requires Synthetic Oil?

Post by jimmycrackcode »

When my wife got her 09 Vibe AWD last winter, the salesman told us it requires a special synthetic oil, and conventional oil will cause issues. I don't want this to turn into a disucussion on the merits or myths of synthetic oil, but has anyone else hear this, or is a line of BS the dealer is giving me to sell me a more expensive oil change?I do run Mobil 1 in my 05 Vibe (yes, a 2-Vibe family here) - I just don't like anyone telling me potentially false information to make a sale. Thanks!

the dealer is just trying to rip you off. It's not needed.

Who is the dealer? Maybe you should make GM aware of this.

What's GM going to do - take away their Pontiac franchise? Oh wait.....Thanks for the response - figured they weren't telling the entire truth there.

When China has so much US $$$ they don't know what else to do with it maybe they will buy just buy GM. I see the ads for that new TV series "V". That big iron ship hovering over the U.S. is really China.

Not sure what dealer you purchased the Vibe from, but the engine oil itself is not synthetic. Now, as for the rear differential and transmission fluid, that may be a different story.

Ummm... No. This is a Vibe, not a Viper. So long as you're on schedule changing oil/filter, your Vibe will run forever on old fashioned dino-juice.
