Third Brakelight Decal

Post by stewh »

Hi AllI thought I would share my experience with installing one of those 3rd brakelight decals with the group.I ran across an ad for a Vibe decal when I was snooping though the Vibe parts listings on ebay a while ago, and the price was so reasonable (under $10 with shipping) I couldn't resist. The decal showed up in the mail in just over a week but unlike the picture in the ad, this decal was designed to go on outside of the hatch glass rather than the inside, which would mean the wiper would run over the bottom of it.I contacted the seller and he assured me that the wiper wouldn't damage it, but I was still not convinced that it would hold up to a wiper blade, let alone an ice scraper so I decided to modify the decal and stick it right over the red lens of the brakelight. The owners manual is pretty vague about how to take off the black cover of the brakelight (to replace the bulb) as the fasteners that hold it on are those one-way type of push in fasteners on my Vibe. So of course in the process of trying to get it off I actually broke off one of the arms on the brakelight housing that pins fasten to. The red lens did pop off quite easily though, and with a bit of cutting and taping the logo fit right on. I expoxied the arm back onto the housing and when I replaced the cover I used screws with a backing plate so that if the bulb ever burns out I can take the cover off more easily. The finished result? Well as you can see from the picture it looks ok but it's almost a bit too big when you add the cover back on. If I had found this group earlier I would have seem from some previous posts that a better decal is available, but hey, live and learn.Later Stew

I am blanking on the place I ordered mine from, but he is pretty big on this site for ordering vinyl from. Hope knows....grrr cant belive I forgot. But anyway I have the 3rd brake light vinyl but mines on the inside, fairly easy to install and he gave me really easy directions to follow, little bit of watery soap and a credit card to smooth it out and mine went on fine.

I make these and I make them perfect. Mine sticks directly to the brake and not the window b/c that is cheesy.Mine also is perfect size and the logo is clearly seen and not oversized.
