Gas Problem

I just got back from a trip to Oklahoma lol! On my trip back I tried to fill up and the Gas pump would keep clicking off! So I figure hey its there pumps. I tried to fill up 3 times after that at all different states and stations. What triggers this?????

It's to prevent fuel spills. The fuel is probably being pumped faster than the tank can be filled. Warmer temps create more fuel vapor and that can sometimes slow the filling of the tank with liquid fuel as the fuel vapor tries to escape. In some places, the fuel pumps have vapor recovery systems that capture the vapor so it's not vented to the atmosphere and pollutes the air.More info: http://www.husky.com/009009.htm

u may have a vent problem in the gas tank,,was the car running?has the check engine light come on yet?

That used to happen to me alllll the time when I had a Plymouth Breeze. I got around it by just not putting the nozzle all the way in. It sucks because you have to hold in in the right position and can't just flip the little tab thing and let go, but it usually stopped the pump from clicking and stopping. I was quite happy when I got the vibe though because I have not had that problem yet. Anyway, the sensor thing sounds plausible, but in the mean time try backing the nozzle out a little and see what happens.

Interesting. I used to use that time to wash the windows while the tank filled. But considering I have more windows now and a smaller tank to fill, it wouldn't work out as nicely. Oh well, no complaints here

We can't pump our own gas here -- so while the guy does it, i wash the windows.

I don't really understand that. How many states don't let people pump their own gas? Do you to tip the guy that does it for you? It's a weird concept to me. I think I would prefer to do it myself. I also love the pay-at-the-pump feature. The faster the experience and less people involved, the better the situation I think.

I believe NJ is the only state that has a law prohibiting you from pumping your own gas. Nope, we don't tip 'em. I remember back in the day they pumped your gas for you, checked the oil, washed the windows. These days, nothin. One time a guy actually did my windows for me -- I tipped him then. But just for pumping, no.Believe me, I'd rather pump my own gas. When I travel out of state, it's a vacation to pump my own damn gas. LOL! I have a Speedpass for Mobil & Exxon, but it's only useful out of state.

I paid $1.26 the other day for regular...But it jumps as high as $1.94 in various parts of the state.A couple summers ago, I remember it went down to $0.45 a gallon. Ahh, those were the days...

I think it just jumped to 1.55 at the *cheap* station by work. I think you can get cheaper gas at Sam's club if you have a card there. I have been meaning to check it out, but I keep forgetting.For some reason, I think someone told me you can't pump your own gas in Oregon either...but I could be completely wrong on that one.

Take it to your dealer and get it fixed. It is a vent problem and is easily fixable. Well sort of, we don't do the work, the mechanics do. anyway they'll know what to do. I had the same problem it took for ever to fill my gas tank one day because of this. Well good luck and be prepared to leave your car behind for a day.Later
