Vibe AWD at the beach

Post by paulzollinger »

Our 2008 FWD 1.8 Vibe was totaled in an accident about 2 weeks ago. We replaced it with a 2009 AWD. My question; we like to vacation at the Outer Banks in NC. Is the awd system in the 2009 capable of driving through sand, enough that we could rent one of the beach houses only accessible by driving the beach to get there? Remember there are spots where the sand is loose and deep. I am very experienced with 4wd and off-roading and know to deflate tires in sand, but have never owned an awd before...

I would pass on tyring to get there in your 09 AWD. Better off renting a vehicle with true 4x4 capability.

Hehe, this reminds me of the time I got stuck in the sand with my Pontiac Bonneville. I went to this small school in Idaho near these sand dunes and I would always go driving out there when I was bored. There's this little dirt side road with some parts just sand. Well, I never go stuck out there till my brother flew out to visit and I told him it would be a great spot to camp. So we hooked up a trailer with two dirt bikes and all our gear, drove out there and got stuck in the sand. Middle of nowhere! We tried digging ourselves out all night and finally got so exhausted we didn't pitch our tent--just slept in the car. The next morning I rode my bike till I could get cell reception and had my friend come pull us out with his truck. He thought it was pretty funny Here's the stuck car: I don't want to hijack the post with a bunch of pictures, but here's links to what is really a beautiful part of Idaho (no potato pictures...sorry):-Old river of lava that forms lava tube caves is spots: http://i969.photobucket.com/al...2.jpg-One of the ice caves (part of lave tube) that we explored:http://i969.photobucket.com/al...3.jpgh ... al...8.jpg http://i969.photobucket.com/al...4.jpg-Playing in the sand:http://i969.photobucket.com/al...b.jpgh ... 9.jpgSorry, hope that wasn't too rude to link all those pics in someone else's post, but this post totally reminded me of that trip.
