Honda Crosstour Pricing $$$WOW$$$

Post by Whelan »

So they released the pricing for the Crosstour the other day. Man what a pricey car. I just don't see the justification other than people saying "it's a Honda."Accord Crosstour 2WD EX 5-Speed Automatic $29,670 Accord Crosstour 2WD EX-L 5-Speed Automatic $32,570 Accord Crosstour 2WD EX-L Navi 5-Speed Automatic $34,770 Accord Crosstour 4WD EX-L 5 Speed Automatic $34,020 Accord Crosstour 4WD EX-L Navi 5-Speed Automatic $36,220 Now there is no fighting that this car is Honda's response to the successful Toyota Venza and other CUV's out there (Chevy Traverse, etc.) But lets look at the Venza as the main competition.Honda Crosstour starts at 29,670 with a 710 destination so it's real base price is 30,380. The Venza is 25,975 with 750 destination so it is offered at 26,725. A 3,655 difference. But lets do apples to apples as the Venza is base with a 4cyl. and the Honda is V6.Note: All prices below will include the destination charges:1) Both in 2WD base form with a V6, the Venza comes in at 28,550, the Crosstour 33,380. Still a difference of 1,830.2) Both in 4WD base form with a V6, the Venza comes in at 30,000 and the Crosstour at 34,730. Difference of 4,730. Granted the Honda only comes in AWD with the leather option, but you can already see where this is going so I won't go crazy with detail. Bottom line is that the Toyota has the following advantages:1) 4cyl. option for better fuel mileage.2) 4cyl. option can have the AWD system if desired.3) Cost in any configuration is lower overall.4) Don't HAVE to have leather if you want AWD.5) More cargo capacity.6) Better visibility out back.I know Honda has the cylinder deactivation technology in the Crosstour, but I am still stumped as to why they couldn't have offered an AWD 4cyl. This car comes in stock base 2WD EX at just over 30k. The base Honda Pilot starts at 27k. I am just so lost as to how Honda expects this car to do well.

Yeh - I am just not into paying that much for a car/wagon/whatever. There were several alternatives to the '09 Vibe I got to replace my '03 but with all the incentives etc. the bang for the buck was unbeatable. It starts, gets decent mpg, is reliable, and gets you there with a reasonable level of comfort and utility. No need on my part to impress anyone. I have both my '09 Vibe and my '07 SWB T&C for less than the price of one Crosstour.

The only issue with the offering of a standard model in these types of cars is such low sales. People typically looking for these types of cars are not looking to have manual transmissions. I would much rather take the Venza over this though, especially at that price point. I wonder what polls these companies are looking at that says Americans don't like wagons.
