Neon wheels?

Post by jlenko »

Hi there... my wife's friend has an 08 Vibe, and wants a set of winter wheels (with snow tires).. Unfortunately, I'm a J-body guy.. so I know little about these Vibes other than they're pretty much Toyotas with a Pontiac radio in them and some arrowheads.I have a set of stock 15" Neon rims (5x100 bolt pattern, not sure of the offset/backspacing), that I'm hoping to give to her. I've read that some Cavalier/Sunfire rims will fit as long as it clears the front calipers? I've used these Neon wheels on my old Cavalier last winter, so I'm hoping these will also fit her car.Looked for Corolla steel wheels, but the junkyards have been cleaned out by Taxi drivers since they all run Corollas now. (how sad!)Any idea if this will work? Or will my attempt be utterly futile??Thanks,John.

older vibes are 5x100 don't see why an 08 would be any different.I copied this from another thread when I searched: bolt pattern, "The Vibes through 2008 and the '09s with the 1.8 l engine have the 5 x 100mm bolt circle. The '09s with the 2.4 l engine have a larger bolt circle (I think they use 5 x 114.3 mm)."

one member said the jbody 15" rims didn't fit or clear his calipers but I don't know how that's possible. IN theory the 15 peon wheels should fit just fine. Only one way to really find out.

Well, we did a test fit today and they do fit. The hub bore is a little too large (I measured it at 57mm, compared to the 54mm for the Vibe hub) so I'll need to find a set of centric rings that will make up the 3mm difference. Or something...And the stock lug nuts won't work, the Neon wheels need a tapered lug.. but that's easy to fix. Anyone know the pitch/thread of the Vibe lugs?

I have a set of 12x1.5 polished lugs from my old Cavalier.. so I guess those will work. Now I need to find a set of centric rings that will fit the 57.1mm bore on the rims, to mate to the 54.1mm hub on the Vibe. Such a small difference!!

I run hubcentric rims on my Subie without rings, no issues.. You just have to sneak up on the torque spec a little more, so the lugs center the wheel... If you where using the stock Vibe lugs, i'd say you needed rings, but with a proper tapered seat lug, you should be ok... Again like the test fit on the wheels, this theory would need to be tested..
