2003 Vibe Start Issue

Post by chadmt »

My 2003 Vibe with 50k miles has recently had an issue at start. I turn the ignition and then it turns over like it's going to start but does not. I jump it off and it starts immediately. It did fine for a couple of weeks and then the problem occured again. Jumped off again and it started fine for a while again. Replaced the battery, checked alternator, etc. but the condition continues. Would really appreciate any help I can get.

There was a problem with 05's, I don't think the problem manifesting itself on 03's.So, when trying to start, it turns over fine, but never ignites. But if you give it a jump start from another vehicle, it starts, and wil continue to start for some time, then starts acting up again. Did you give it a jump start because you ran the battery down trying to start it? Did it start ok for a while after you put the new battery in?I guess at this point, either being on 03 or having 50K miles means out of warranty Also, I'm guessing if you had a check engine light come on, you'd have mentioned that. You said it stated fine for a couple of weeks between jump starts, how much do you drive, do you drive the car every day? Wondering if something is wrong with a sensor, or the computer, running the power down resets the computer, it comes back up in learn mode and takes a little while to overreact to what the sensors are telling it. I'd think this would set a CEL, but not sure what else would cause it to start right up from a jump start, if it turned over fine before needing the jump start. Even if that was what was happening, it doesn't really help narrow down what the real cause is.

Check battery voltage to see if it at least 12.6 with the ignition off and engine not running. Sounds like low voltage. Maybe a bad ground on neg. battery cable.
Beware of frosty fall mornings and mountain roads. Mods: Strut bar, Typhoon air intake, 8x16 mag rims, 225/45 rubber, trailer hitch.

Did you finally get your problem solved? I've got a simular problem it will not start sometimes. Then I'll have to wait about 45 minutes without trying to start it, then all at once it'll start. I was told that the security was causing it to lock out because of the key tumblers so I had the tumblers changed ($200.00) and it is still doing it. I need to get it resolved so I can trust the reliability of it. Please, I'd appreciate any help from anyone.
