I just got my 2003 awd vibe w/6-cd changer but w/o m&t a few weeks ago and have been looking to this site for info about it since then, but this is my first post.My car audio is important to me, so it is the first thing that I want to upgrade in my Vibe. I've been reading about how some speakers when installed in the front doors don't allow the windows to go down all the way. I know that there are some speaker mods that can fix that, but I was wondering if speakers described as "shallow" would fit without modification.ex. there is Polk Audio DB651 and DB651s "s" meaning shallow.Thanks guys, this forum rocks!!

Alpine makes a slimmer in the S series..
I havent read a post where a member installed the shallow mount Polks. I have seen a couple of threads where a member installed the DB651 ( non shallow ) in the front with minor mods. The DB651 & DB651-S are essentially the same speaker:DB651Power range: 6-60 watts RMSFrequency response: 35-22,000 HzDB651-SPower range: 6-55 watts RMSFrequency response: 50-22,000 HzMy plan is to buy the shallows ( DB651-S ) for the front to make it a simple remove & replace process & put the DB651 ( non shallow ) in the rear. The specs are so close I wouldnt be able to tell the difference anyhow !
* 2003 Vibe Auto Satellite Silver w / Moons & Tunes
* Kenwood Excelon KDC-X597
* Polk DB651-Speakers
* Soundproofcow Roadblock R sound deadening in all doors
* Drop In K & N Filter
* NGK Iridium IX Plugs
* 27 MPG City/Highway with AC on
Thanks guys, That is actually exactly what I was thinking about doing, putting the DB651-s in the front because they would be easy to drop in and the DB651 in the back since they will fit without modification and are a little cheaper than the S-series.
You shouldn't need shallow speakers if you reuse the old speaker stand/offset/ring(?). the stock speaker is mounted in a tall plastic ring that keeps it out of the way of the window. when you remove the stock speakers, just cut them out of the ring and screw/attach your new speakers into them.
