AAARRRGGGH! Hit by Vibe's only recall.

Well, it finally happened to me. The only recall on the Vibe has now hit my car.It's really not too bad, but it will get worse.Recall # 69326 Front glass bolts loosening, separating from the regulator.Had this happen last year on my 2004 Corolla LE and repaired under warrenty.Now on the Vibe, this particular recall repair was done on MY Vibe on June of 2008. The bolts may of loosened up again. The sound is the same:When rolling down window, about half way down, you hear a glass-like 'clunk' just once. When window is taken up, no problem.Anyone else here go through this?MSAGRO

I just tried it on mine, and works flawlessly.B14ck had it right, the door stop actuator is too long and hits against the window on the upswing, a very poor design fault.But why would it just begin to do it now?Any answers would be appreciated.MSAGRO

ou.grizz, Try lowering and raising the window with the door open at least a foot and a half, if there is no 'thunk' it's the door check "T" end hitting the glass. It CAN shatter if used too much.This also may be the base of the original recall.Try it and let me know.MSAGRO

Just re-read your post.Nope, when I have my door open, the windows work flawlessly.When shut, when you power down the windows, everytime you hear that stomach dropping 'clunk'. I'm repairing it when I have more light.

I am not too worried as that project is on the back burner due to other reasons. Have 2 other Vibes to drive. But since your 2004 is your DD or assume it is - I would take it back to the dealer and have it looked at. I am just suspecting the run/track may need to be replaced also. It fixed the issue with the passenger door (had the run/track replaced).

Got it fixed. It WAS the door stop extender:The left part of the "T" was hitting the glass upon rolling up the window.As per B14ck's post (thanks), trimming the right part of the "T" about a quarter inch to clear the window worked wonders.The only variant I did to his repair was I only took 1/4 inch off the side, leaving an 1/8 inch clearance from the glass.I felt I needed a little more 'door stop' insurance incase the door is swung open in an extreme manner.Quite happy with the results.MSAGRO

Had mine repaired after a year before the front drivers glass exploded in my lap in 33 degree wheather! glass place found bolt off in the bttom of the door!

Thats the irony of this particular repair.The door check sticking on the glass will cause the bolts and the regulator to separate.After the damage, they assume that the bolt separated from the actuator, but in reality, the door check is what caused it, not the bolt.There has never been a recall of this bad design, but there has been a recall on the bolts.OddMSAGRO

Alot of Vibes had this problem, but they were mostly covered under warranty. I got mine done at about 26000 miles, and 2 years old. It started making that pop noise when I rolled it up. I was worried it was going to explode one day...... but they fixed it and said that it was a pretty common problem.
