Anyone have any tips on getting a lower insurance premium? I currently have Esurance. I've shopped around and they seem to have the best price for me. One major problem with them is that if I do a quote online, exactly how it states my current policy is (driving record, coverage amounts, etc.), it states that my insurance is about $80 cheaper than what I am paying a month. I'm sure that my credit score is considered in with this rate, and that may be why I am paying more. But when I'm being quoted $150 a month, and they're making me pay $230 a month, thats quite a bit of money!Keep in mind that I am 23 and a male, so that is why my insurance is so high. I haven't had a ticket in a little over 2 years, but I had a couple the year before so those will be off my insurance record when I renew next March. I have no accidents on my record.
holy crap $230 a month on a 03 vibe?!I dont have speeding tickets but mine was 110 on the vibe at its max. Have you tried gieco or state farm? The only way to keep most parts but lower it is to raise your deductible. I didnt think your "credit" score had anything to do with insurance...but Ive had the same state farm agent since 16 so idk how they do that.
Keep shopping spend a day calling insurance places. I keep going between allstate and progressive.Progressive just went up for us with the new car. So i will be shopping yet again. But for the year for my wife's car and my car. with maxed out coverage we are paying about 1400..... keep in mind that your insurance rate is not only dependent on your driving history. They also look at where you live and if there is a high accident rate for your area. If so it will jack up the rates too.If you own a home. Only thing I can suggest is to lower your coverages, raise your deductable. And look in to a balloon coverage to cover your tookiss if you were in an accident and your coverages weren't high enough that they are suing you for more than what you covered for. The balloon coverage will kick in so that they can't sue you for your house.

Wow that's pricey. My quote for 6 months in CT (expensive state to insure in) is like 6 somethin. I pay it all up front for a discount.I use Progressive. I have had them for years and years, each time I get a good customer discount for sticking with them and a discount for paying in full, or a discount for going paperless. I make claims online fast and quick, I get a call within the hour and go over my claim. When making the claim I can setup an appt. at their concierge centers.I have a concierge in my town around the corner from my house. You literally pull in for your appointment (or have the car towed there to begin with). You walk in, go over your paperwork in like 5 mins. for the girl to come out walk the car, chalk the damage, then you walk to the other side of the building, get in your rental and leave. No payment for the rental (i.e. deposit), no mileage limits or anything, they help you load your rental with your stuff if need be and call you within 24 hours to give you the repair estimate. Once the car is done in a week or two max, you bring your rental back to the concierge drop it off, they take you to your car, walk the car and make sure its to your approval, if not they take it back, no questions asked and you get your rental back.Oh and the rentals are pretty decent, I always get a small SUV of some sort, they never shaft me with the cheesy cars. All in all I rate Progressive a 10. The traveling adjusters and concierge service and friendly people no matter who I call or see. Can never complain! As for Allstate, I'll never go back, my rates were ridiculous when I got them first and when I moved to Progressive I never looked back. Allstate is good if you have never had not one single incident ever in your life, you have never EVER gotten a ticket or citation for ANYTHING. And if you drive 15-20mph wherever you go, then yes Allstate is cheap. One dinger and your rate skyrockets.I called Traveler's once for a quote, the lady came back with $1300. I was like for the year! She said no for 6 months. She said I sounded surprised, I said I am and she asked for a copy of my current policy, I faxed it to her and she called me back saying there was no way they could ever get close to my cost. It pays to stay at one place for awhile.
Credit will play a part in your insurance rates. To get your rates lower, stop speeding and get older. I know that isn't much help. I pay about $50/month for coverage on my '05 Vibe. 3 years ago it was much higher than that. I haven't had a ticket in over 3 years. Your insurance rates will drop a lot when you are 25 years old.
March 2011 MOTMFebruary 2010 MOTM My GenVibe garage
hmm mine dropped at 21 then 25, but yes if you get married it cuts by 3/4's its freaking nuts. my friend has a 2007 SS paid 200 a month or more.. got married, 3 cars 75 bucks.
Allstate, $85/mo, with 0 deductible, and towing reimbursement. It has gone down several times since the near 3 years I've had this car. No tickets or accidents in several years, and I don't even remember being 23
Well I called Esurance today to get a quote on the vehicle that I am looking at buying (see my other thread posted). They re-ran my credit report and my insurance was lowered about $80. So for the Vibe, my monthly payment is about $155 now compared to the $237 I was paying. YAY!As for what everyone else mentioned...Marriage is not in my future any time soon. lolI don't own a home, so no need for umbrella insurance, and no possibility for multiple account discounts.

Seat Belt, no cell phone while driving, leave at least 2 car lengths distance from the car in front, no tickets and no accidents. I pay $117 a month for full coverage, high limits, $150/$250 comp/collision deductibles for my '06 Vibe, and my gf's '05 Escape hybrid. That's with USAA.
I pay like $700 for 6 months with Progressive. Keep in mind that where you live plays a big role also. Where I live there is a $20 difference more to where I am moving too. And that is just 10 miles away.Your coverage also can vary. Do you want a $500 deductible or a $1000, or no deductible. That is another large factor in cost along with are you getting 100/300, or 50/100, etc. Glass coverage, roadside assistance?I would checkout Progressive I have had them for over 7 years and each year my status goes up so I get a bigger discount. So much so that going to another company can never save me money, it's how they work. Give you such a deep discount for repeat business that you won't need to leave. Keeping customers is big bizz and having longevity and history with a company speaks volumes instead of jumping around each time your up again for new policies.Rates did go up across the board recently as well, I found that out the other day, also something to note. At 23 your insurance starts going down depending on what you drive, and yes color of your car is a factor.Tickets stay on your record for 3 FULL years that are moving violations (speeding), non moving violations are 1 year (parking). Accidents can stay on depending on the company up to 3 years as well. Progressive has a 3 strike policy. At first it is 3 no faults before your rates go up. Since I have been with them so long it is now irregardless of whose fault I dont get rate increases for accidents. And I've been clean for awhile, only one on my record (knock on wood) dropping off next re-up.
I switched from Allied/Nationwide after a hail damage claim. GMAC offered better coverage for less; went to 300K from 100K, 250 deductible, 5K medical. The premiumwent from $370 to $260 for 6 months coverage. If anyone is an 09-10 owner, it mighthelp to check them out. After 2 decades of paying premiums up front, Allied seemed more concerned about the lienholder, so I bought insurance from GMAC. Allied Insurance
I work for Nationwide, which owns Allied. I can wholeheartedly agree with that statement. That's why I don't have any of my policies with them. Great company to work for because of that, though.
