New guy from Denver, has questions

Post by 5280Vibe »

We just picked up a fully loaded 2005 Vibe base model the other day and are very pleased with it so far!! My only concern I have was when the dealership handed over the key I noticed both key fobes (keyless entry) was missing and the key they provided us was not an genuine GM key. I was curious if there were ways to program additional keyless entry remotes to the vehicle on my own? I have seen many remotes on ebay and would really like to know if they work or not being that I could program them? My last question deals with the ignition key. In 2005 did the Vibe's ignition key come equipped with a "chip" built into the key? As mentioned above my ignition key is also not original and probably made at Home Depot or something and Im worried using it would cause future problems depending if the stock key came with a chipped key.

This may or may not help, but my car was the same way when I bought it (used). I was handed only the key. A day later I was poking around and I found the fob at the bottom of the center console. Check around, you may get lucky

The 2005 models did not have chips in the keys, so a basic key is fine, the only difference is that the replacement key might not have the Pontiac plastic on it, but using it won't cause any problems. Good thing too, that way additional keys are a lot cheaper. (The keys take a Toyota key blank.)There is a multistep procedure on programming replacement key fobs, and the ones off ebay will work, and you don't need to go to a dealer to get it done. It was first posted here by NovaResource in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=11360 It is a Toyota procedure, but it's a Toyota keyless entry system in the Vibe, so it applies.Welcome to genvibe

^ Thanks for the welcome. Im glad to hear the 2005 models came with no chips in the key. Looks like I will go about using the ebay replacements and follow the link you have provided to get everything working. Thanks again!!!

Welcome. I've had to reprogram one of my remotes, and that link works great. p.s. I love to see members at high altitude I'm still trying to find someone who is at a higher altitude than me.
