Airbag Light On - Likely Causes

Post by Vibe Venturer »

Hello all, I haven't been on here in awhile, which is great testimony to the trouble free ownership of my 05 Vibe with 180,000 miles.Well there's trouble - my airbag light is on and I need an inspection sticker. What I'd like to know from you guys who have had the same problem, what is the likely culprit - what part is the weak link? Some kind of sensor? I don't want to take the car to the dealership and have to blindly take their word that the problem is an $800 module. I'd rather replace some cheaper ancillary parts first before having to replace such an expensive part. Translation: I don't trust the d-bags at the dealership. Now the politics of this is IMO, iwhether those airbags work or not should be my choice. On some vehicles, they give me the choice of physically shutting off the passenger side airbag. Well with that light on, I've decided to shut off the driver's side as well. It should be my choice, much as it would be my choice to drive an older vehicle without airbags. I hate inspection time - I resent spending boatloads of money on stuff that has no impact on the roadworthiness of the vehicle. (End of Rant)

You could check the connector on the back of the radio bezel. If that's disconnected, the airbag light will stay on.

This airbag light came on shortly after I had my Sirius radio installed. They buried the power supply and FM booster in the dash.I did learn that here in the People's Republic of Massachusetts, they will immediately fail my car for the air bag light, put a big red communist R in my inspection sticker, meaning reject, comrade. I then will be unable to operate the vehicle until it's repaired. Don't repair it comrade, and the Polit Bureau Registry will revoke your registration. So as you can guess, I'll steer clear of the Red "R". I've got to the end of the month on my current sticker.Anybody, any other ideas on what it might be if it's not the wire behind the radio? What are the usual suspects?

With your last response, I would honsetly be shocked if it wasn't the plug. I've done the same thing myself in forgetting to plug it back in. If by some mysterious chacne that's not it, you can always check the fuse under the dash. Just can't remember which one it is right now.
