VOTM and MOTM banners(Sigs)

Post by NascarXprt »

Ok here is a new deal i am trying to start. Before i show or tell you what i have done, let me tell you what we used to do for MOTM and VOTM.When we first started the VOTM and the MOTM contest, every winner for that month was labeled i believe "(month) VOTM/MOTM" (an admin can come and correct me) under thier user name, you know the deal that says "Member", "Genvibe God', and "____ Moderator". Well anyways, before the contest went on a strange hiatus they stopped this. Well i am going to try and start something similar, or if it is possible try and start working with the Mods to get the old system back or to try and work with a new system i am about to show you.Ok that is enough chatter, lets get to what i started this thread for. here i have two examples of the October winners for VOTM and MOTM banners or sigs.First is just the label itself, no picture of the vehicle. Just the Member user name on the left, year in the middle and the month and either MOTM or VOTM on the right. and this one is the label with the winners car:now, for the months with big holidays like, October (Halloween), November (Thanks Giving), and December (X-Mas) just to name a few will have Special Schemes or colors if you will. Now, if any of the members or mods have any suggestions or ways to make these a bit better or "different/unique" to GV please comment here, and any Mods Please PM, i would like to discus some details with you.thanks and please, leave comments and your Ideas!and i have one last thing to say and that is through this link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XL9lJ50-UM

looks good, man! I like the idea of changing themes with the seasons, holidays and whatnot.

not really, since i already have the template made and all it needs is some small editing, like the month, colors and names, and the vehicle picture. it shouldn't be difficult. yea i may have to talk to nick. oh and a question for you Cristen, are the mods able to remove or do some kind of editing to users signatures?

I've never tried. They must be able to though because one of the mods edited mine when I became a forum moderator. Edit: Actually it might have been one of the (no longer) admins...

I think it is a good idea, because it advertises the VOTM and MOTM contests all around the site. I have always felt that the humble participation in the contests and the voting was due to many members not seeing the threads in the VOTM/MOTM subforum. I always enter on the Active Topics list, but I don't know how many peoplee never use that link and then never see the nomination and voting threads no matter how many times they are bumped.

Could be tough to add that graphic to a sig considering they all vary in their dimensions. I really like the thought of doing something to the avatar. Different ways to execute:1) Create two graphics, a VOTM and an MOTM and find a way to code them in as that person's avatar for the month, or provide a photobucket (or any preferred form of image hosting) link to the winner to add in themselves for the duration of their reign.2) Create seasonal graphics which would mean 8 total designs (winter, spring, summer, fall x2), same as above.3) Have the winner create their own avatar...the burden of shameless self promotion falls upon the winner. Would be interesting to see what different people come up with given the same set of parameters. That's all I could come up with for now

I think the banner on the sig will be awesome, but tough like Blanco_Diablo said, to fit all the different sizes.

well with the "different" sizes there is really no problem. all it would require is the winner "pick" there favorite or best photo of the vehicle or they could just use the banner by itself for the month w/o the picture of the vehicle.now as for the avatar thing, that would be real difficult to work out, legibility and visibility wise since it is so small, i think it is 60px x 60px in size. but that is a good idea. now i should be talking to nick sometime this week and see what he has to say/offer/suggest.But again thank you everyone for the comments and suggestions, hopefully we can get this all sorted out and working for this coming month.i shall keep everyone posted.
