2010 Aftermarket Stereo

Post by dirtbag43 »

I have to install a Sony in my new Vibe, the factory stereo ain't cutting it. I'm wondering what all will I be missing if I don't purchase the $129 Metra GMOS-LAN-01 unit to keep onstar functioning. I've read that door chimes and the like will go away. I don't really mind that but I don't want to lose something crucial."You must use the recommended Crutchfield integration adapter to retain the warning system chimes. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death."That's what Crutchfield says about the Metra unit. Who's put a new stereo in their 2010 or 2009 without a Metra? I don't wanna die! Thanks.

I suggest you upgrade the speakers first. You'll be so pleased that you may decide to keep the factory head unit. The stock speakers are nothing more than beer coasters attached to refrigerator magnets.

That is the most accurate description I have EVER read for factory speakers in a car.

I would imagine there is very little difference between the 09 & 10 Vibes. The radio in our cars not seem to be part of GM's databus system & as a result you do not need the GM LAN adapter. You'd only need it if you wanted to retain your onstar/in-car cell phone.FWIW the chime buzzer is built into the back of the instrument cluster

so only onstar would go away, no life and death warnings like crutchfield would have you believe?
