manual or repair guide for 2009 vibe

Post by tribalman »

as i recently wrote that mod for the 03-08 vibes i have had a few persons ask me about doing it on the 09 vibes. i recall reading that the 09's have a different module or something than the previous versions, is this correct? is there any sort of free guide/manual/repair guide similar to the one that was out for the 03 matrices(i don't have a link to it, i remember downloading from matrix owners IIRC)? i'd like to see the wiring schematics to verify if the mod can be done on the 09's, or another way of doing them. all my searches have been fruitless.or an owner of an 09 is willing, can you take quite a few pictures of the drl module?
None. Vibe is gone.

The 2009 DRL control module is located in a different place from the previous years. It's behind the glove box, much easier to get to and work on. Just remove the glove box completely to make it easy. There are 3 white plugins behind the glove box, the bigger and farther to the right is the DRL plugin. The #12 pin that you're looking for is located directly under 2 bigger wires, one is brown and the other white and the 09 models changed the wire color, you are looking for a small blue wire. You can either cut the blue wire or have a service tech remove it from the plug, takes a tool to do it, but at least you can put it back in if you trade the vehicle etc. Either way make sure to tape the ends of the wire. This eliminates the daytime running lights completely and auto headlights at night, but you have total control over your headlights. If you're intent on having daytime running lights (which they are nice to have) you can simply cut the blue wire and wire it into an extra switch on the dash somewhere. Then you can turn the switch off at night and have control of your headlights like any normal vehicle. Either way works, I just use my headlights in the daytime anyway, so don't have any use for daytime running lights and don't have to worry about an extra switch and other wiring to mess up. Once I figured out where to look and what to do, it took the Toyota service tech about 10 minutes to complete the job and get me on the road. Just remember, the 09's is the #12 blue wire, not red. Thanks goes to this website for your help and especially to 2 great Toyota service techs at the local dealership here who took the time to research and solve my issue on a Pontiac Vibe. Note: 2009 Matrix, Vibe and Corolla are all located in the same location, behind the glove box FOUND THAT DOING A SEARCH

Here are some schematics for the 09 DRL module. Not sure if they'll help... I hope they are at least legible.

All I really want to be able to do is have independent fog lights so I can turn them on whenever I want i.e. with the parking lights. I will probably end up disabling the DRLs / auto headlights myself sometime this week.Let me know if you still want pictures of the DRL module or better yet we could always meet up so you could check it out in person. Let me know.

Looking at the foglight schematics for the 09, it seems that the foglight relay signal goes through the foglight switch first, then through a switch in the DRL module. So in order for the foglights to turn on, the switch has to be on and also the internal "switch" in the DRL module. If you look at the DRL module, there is a white wire in position #2. The schematics show the two heavy gauge wires as position "A" and "B", so the white wire is the 2nd after the two heavy gauge wires. If I'm correct, connecting this white wire to ground should "enable" the foglight switch at all times.Anybody brave enough to test this out? To be safe, a multimeter should first be used to verify that the white wire does indeed get grounded when the foglights are "enabled". Only then should that be connected to ground.EDIT: I just tested this out by pushing a wire into the hole for the white wire and touching the other end to the metal bar that the DRL module is mounted on. I was able to turn on the foglights without turning on the headlights (or even the car for that matter). However, I did not get the chime/buzz that you get when you leave your lights on, so if anyone does this mod, be mindful to turn off your foglights when you leave your car.

Tribalman if you could do this to my '09 GT I would be so happy! It would be great to be able to use the stock switch! I always turn my fog lights off now before I turn the car off so not having a chime wouldn't matter to me.I am so ****ing excited!!! w00t!!!

Or at least post some pictures of which wire you are referring to and such? It would be greatly appreciated I'm sure. I know I would like to do this ASAP.
