I just recently bought a great quality sun shade on E-bay and then discovered that it's a pain to attach/detach my radar detector every time I want to put the shade up. Also, I hated that power cord out of the way of the HVAC controlls too. Since I have the moon roof, I figured that I could tap the power up there. So I used the visor clip on my Bell to attach to the headliner above the mirror. Tried that for a couple of days, and the dot pattern around the mirror seems to have no affect on K or Ka band. I don't know, however, if the dots affect laser detection. I have only been "painted" by a laser once and the cops here in my area just don't seem to use them or my detector isn't good at busting them I don't know which. So tapping the hot side was no big deal, it's the brown wire on the harness side or red on the light/moonroof switch side. I tapped in on the harness side (brown). I grounded on the light/moonroof side (gray) which is the ground for the light bulb.Actually the only hard part was adapting the radar detector cord onto a wire gauge that could be inserted in a tap connector. I ended up stripping off the soft plastic cover and burning away the inside "conduit" (that keeps the curly shape) away with a match. I could not figure out how to strip that conduit away without breaking the incredibly tiny copper wire filaments. Burning it away worked good. I then wrapped the tiny filaments around a 16gauge wire and soldered that. Then I put a wire nut on that to keep it from grounding/shorting.Works great and now my detector is up out of the sight of the cops unless they bend way down to see it up there. Detectors are legal where I live, but I think that just in case I get pulled over for speeding the presence of a detector might influence whether the cop lets me off with a warning or writes the ticket for less miles over.Finishing touches: I put the anti skid rubber dots on the fron of the mount bracket because it was tapping on the windshield and I'm going to put two screws in the headliner where the suction cups used to go in order to keep the detector from moving around. Now all I need is for GM to quit dragging their feet on supercharger availability!
