Will these lug nuts work with 16" steel wheels? - '09 Vibe GT

Post by vibenvy »

Well, after reading on here time and time again about how snow tires are so much better than the factory all seasons and because I don't want to screw up the beautiful factory wheels with salt, I have finally begun researching snow tires and wheels for mine and my mom's '09 GTs. It looks like we are going to go with the Preferred Package with the 16" steel wheels and 205/55/16 Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D tires (no TPMSs) from Tire Rack. We will be road tripping to South Bend (a 2 hour drive is totally worth it to save $86.00+ on shipping) to pick them up.With that said and done, I started researching lug nuts. I am going to be getting these black chrome McGard lug nuts, I just want to make sure they will fit fine with steel wheels. I checked the size and all on McGard's website and that's the part number that came up so I know they will fit thread wise and all. I used lug nuts just like these with the steel wheels on my Sunfire, but I just want to double check that I won't have any problems with them working with the steel wheels on the GTs. Thanks in advance.

I used the stock lugs on my steel wheels... ?They have a tapered seat like any other lug...

I could be really wrong so everyone please pipe in, but taper on aluminum and steel rims is different, I believe you must get the regular steel rim wheel nuts, there could also be a depth problem with the nut not seating fully.

If the wheel has a taper seat it will be the same for both aluminum and steel wheels. The only time you will find a difference is if you go from a OEM aluminum and steel wheel with a radius seat or a OEM aluminum wheel that uses a shank nut, to an aftermarket wheel with a taper seat then you will have to change nuts.
