Driving in High Mountains

Post by zoomie »

During a recent trip in my Vibe I was pleasantly surprised that I didnt lose power during this one high altitude flat stretch that would always have me pressing the pedal to the floor in both my 4-speed MT '95 Metro or '81 Civic. Sweet Those were .75L and 1.1L engines. The Vibe is heavier but I havent looked into power to weight ratios, the Metro was fuel-injected (well, sort-of ). Why the better performance?

The Vibe has twice the horsepower and torque (or more) then the other two.

You will still lose some performance at high altitudes, but it isn't as noticeable on the flat roads. I live at about 6,000 feet and the Vibe seems to do pretty good for the most part. Usually on the weekends, my family jumps in the car and we head up the mountains and get above 10,000 feet with no problems.
