Toyota Matrixs Recall

Post by Zig »

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it is recalling about 95,700 vehicles in 19 states because low temperatures can cause the vehicle's power brake assist to fail. Toyota said that certain 2009 and 2010 Toyota Corollas and Corolla Matrixs, and 2008 and 2009 Scion xDs with 1.8 liter engines are affected. In low temperatures, Toyota said moisture may seep into the car's brake system vacuum port and freeze, leading to decreased power assist for the brakes and longer breaking distances. States affected by the recall are Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. http://www.marketwatch.com/sto...08-26

Do you think the Vibe might have the same issues?

...so, people who live in Arizona (or New Mexico or Texas, etc.) will NEVER drive to any place that gets down to freezing, ever, so they don't need this recall?!?!...I smell a law suite...hell, just 15 miles from center of Tucson city is Mt. Lemmon which is ~10K feet and it sure as heck gets WELL below freezing just about all winter.

I can see how water could leak in and freeze but you would need a lot of water to condense upon the engine getting hot enough for the oil to evaporate the water in the first place. Perhaps there are more lines on models with automatic transmissions or the lines are routed differently. All the lines run next to the engine so it would appear that multiple stages of condensing and evaporating would be required. I wonder what GM will have to say about it....

GM probably won't have much to say about it... that's about how it is with everything else. Deer in the headlights kind of thing. Well, that didn't start happening until they were exposed.

...unfortunately, the US Auto Industry has the "tombstone" mentality when it comes to recalls.
