Cigg lighter / Stereo Out

Post by Erin »

Hi... looking for some help here. I have read all the threads I can find about this but I think I may have a bigger problem. I drive an 05 Vibe with moon & tunes package. On sunday I was driving, used the cigarette lighter & all power is now lost for my head unit, speakers & lighter. Everything else is OK, so I figure it'a blown fuse (this used to happen in my Beretta all the time). Boyfriend checked the radio fuse (AMP1) and the cigarette fuse & neither is blown Any ideas of another fuse it could be or something else that could have caused it? I am bummed, I miss my music and hve no cash for repairs... Plus warranty is upThanks!!

Did a quick search and when other member's cig lighter stopped working it was a "tail light" fuse that was the issue, but would not explain the stereo not working.Try the other fuses.

Thanks! I will try the other fuses, but I am pretty sure he checked just about all of them. But, the tailight fuse he probably would not have checked. I have a feeling I am going to be the one crawling under the seat today I am just really hoping it is a fuse and not something more.

When you say neither is blown, did you test them, or are you just looking at them? If just looking... try replacing the fuse just in case. I've seen it where when you look at the fuse it doesn't look blown, but indeed it was. putting a tester up to it will really tell you if you have power flowing thru the fuse.

Thanks for the help! When I said neither is blown, we were just looking at the fuses. I figured it would be easy to spot that it was blown as it was was the last time this happened. I don't have a fuse tester but I am sure I can find somebody that has one. I'll see if I can borrow one and check that way. I was thinking this morning that we should have put the spare in and tried it anyway. I'll keep my fingers crossed & let you guys know what happens Do you think it was the lighter or the radio fuse? I have one extra green one (I believe it had a 15 on it) but that's it. Thanks!

I recall issues in my Eclipse when I used the cig lighter (for my radar detector) it didn't always blow fuses, but on occasion it would and cut out the radio, so I hard wired my R.D. and no more issues since I wasn't using the Cig lighter anymore.I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, hopefully it's just a bad fuse and not something else.

Thanks! Maybe the fuse just doesn't look blown. I just sent my boyfriend a text to find out it he has a fuse tester. He works on cars alot, so I am guessing he does. I'll just have him test all of them while he is under there... might as well right? Hopefully I will be listening to music on my way home later tonight...if I am lucky!

It was a 15 amp fuse, and was clear if that helps any. I can ask which one & get back to you if you want. I was just so happy it was fixed I didn't ask which one it was
