There's a Vibe GT that was hit on the driver door on eBay. I asked the seller whether or not the side airbag went off, and he said it didn't. If that's the case, what good is the air bag on the side?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 2422826136

You are assuming it has side airbags. Checking the VIN reveals that it doesn't. The 7th digit of the VIN is the Restraint Code. The VIN of that Vibe GT has a 2 which is for "Active (manual) belts w/driver & passenger front air bags". Vibes with front and side airbags would have a 4 in the 7th digit of the VIN.

Oh as a motorcycle rider as well, I'd be willing to almost guarantee this was a side impact of a bike. Betcha if you look at the roof, there'd be scratches going across it as well where the rider went flying over.As I said in the other thread (For Sale/Wanted) I'm really shocked any insurance company would write the vehicle off for this. Damage appears minimal actually.... 1 drivers door complete, and some minor body work elsewhere. Oh - lower front moulding too I guess... So all in all - not cheap, but I don't think it justifies writing it off.....

quote:Lance armstrong is good...but not THAT good...A 600lb bike going 50mph can do some pretty good damage to the car pulling out in front of him/her. I remember an accident nearby that the bike rider and the lady that pulled out in front of him died. The car (pontiac 6000 if I remember right) was just mangled from the impact. I sold my last road bike a couple years ago and I'm itching to get another, but the wife really doesn't want me to get one. She said she doesn't want to raise our 22 month old boy on her own. Maybe I'll get a dirt bike.
