i noticed on my vibe GT that i have to pull the handle all the way up before the emergency brake holds. for example- if im parked on a slight incline, the handle must be pulled up all the way or the car will roll. just one or two clicks under all the way up it will not hold.is this something i need to get checked or is everyone else that way?thanks Greg
I can't speak for the Vibe but on my car it's pretty simple to adjust the emergency brake. There is a adjustment if you follow the emergency line cable back to your rear brakes. You can screw it in for tightening the cable or screw it out for loosening it. You just have a adjustment problem. It can be easily fixed. You or a dealer can do this.
I should have looked before I replied, but if you have a GT then the disc brakes aren't as good with the e-brake as drums. It's so much easier for drums to work compared to discs which need a lot of pressure. I found this out when trying to stop the car backing down my driveway with the engine off.
Hey, am i the only retard who drove with his parking brake on???i kinda neglected lookin at the brake light...Funny thing is i realized it was on from the smell of burning rubber... thats a bad thing right?

We just did this today. I said "Whats that smell?" The parking brake was mostly off, but must have still been slightly on (did that make sense) because when my bf looked at the guages he saw the (!) and we knew what the smell was so we took off the p-brake immediately. Hopefully it will be okay. Sputnik has had a rough week.

The e-brake is just a mechanical way to engage the rear brakes, Pulling up on the ebrake handle pulls a cable that causes the rear brakes to grab. It is the same brake pads that work when you step on the brake pedal, just engaged by a mechanism separate from the hydraulic pressure generated by stepping on the brake pedal. There are no special ebrake pads to replace, and the e-brake cable will probably never need to be replaced.
