New 2009 Vibe Owner

Post by DrummerBoy »

Hi All, I am a new member of Genvibe, however I've been reading these great forums and learning alot about the Vibe for the last few weeks. I actually purchased my 2009 Carbon Grey 2.4/Auto Vibe on June 15th. I only have driven it about 250 miles so far. The only mods I have done so far are having the windows tinted with Solargard HP Supreme film 15% on the sides and rear windows, and 35% on the front driver and passenger windows. I had a glare strip applied accross the top of the windshield which I like, but will have removed on Tuesday because the gate transponder for my community doesn't seem to work through the tint, even though it's not metallic film. Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself and thank everyone for the great posts on these forums.

Nice Vibe! And welcome to genvibe! Too bad the windshield strip has to go. Can't the gate transponder be located in some other spot?

The transponder reader is a low output design according to the manufacturer this eliminates crosstalk from nearby vehicles and false gate openings. It also is a weak signal, so I guess the tint blocks some of the needed signal. The tag must be affixed to the windshield at the top passenger side corner. I could probably cut a square out of the tint film and then re-attach the tag.

I would really like to get a strip of tint added to the top of my windshield, but I am worried it won't stick to the dots and it will look crappy. Great looking Vibe! Congratulations!

Hey nice car! I'm new to all this to, so hello to all! I purchased my vibe in July and already have 2800kms. The car has a 2.4l VVTI engine with a 5 speed, its great on gas, and peppy, I love the new style. I started putting high grade gas (94oct) in the vibe, does anybody think this is a bad idea? Hope all have a great weekend!Jason

Welcome to genvibe drummerboy and jason -- enjoy your new vibes jason: doubt it will hurt the 2.4, but i think you're probably wasting your money buying 94.

The glare strip actually stuck to the dot matrix by the rear view mirror very well. From the outside of the car it appeared a slightly lighter color than the rest of the strip. I had the tint professionally installed, he did an ok job, almost every window has a few slight dots, not air bubbles, but little specks in a round pattern. He claims it's where he has to touch the tint when working with it and it's unavoidable. It's not very noticable and I guess it can never be perfect so I didn't bust his chops to redo it. The price was fair...189.00 complete for Solargard HP Supreme film.

great!!.. Im a carbon grey owner too. Very good choice of color. The vibes look very good in carbon grey as well as other colors.. I have black and silver pin stripes on mine but, unfortunately the black stripes are starting to look bad. they have gotten a dull faded appearance. Gotta find a way to fix them and make them nice and glossy again....
