Another Clunker Deal-2010 AWD

Post by Russiaville »

I pulled the trigger on Thursday and got a beautiful 2010 AWD with sight and sound. Traded in a 2001 Explorer and a 2002 Mini Cooper. Got the GMS discount and the $1,500 rebate. Very happy so far. Just about to take it 100 miles for a class reunion. More later.

Yes - lots of people are getting their own "stimulus" handout. I guess no one should complain abut $3 bil to the "people" compared to the $750+ bil to the high paid bank execs. I guess I am behind - I did not know there was a $1,500 rebate on the 2010's. Iis that limited to those who have/qualify for the "Supplier's Discount" (as opposed to those who just buy at the supplier price)?

Congrats and welcome! What do you know, another black cash for clunkers Vibe. I didn't realize there were rebates available with GMS pricing on 2010s. That pin stripe is interesting. Our own went straight down the side and screwed up the lines near the front. So we had them remove them before we took delivery.

Speaking of the pinstripe, I'd like to ask the opinion of those here. The stripe was already on the car when I bought it and when I was paying for the car, I found out I had to pay $159 for this lovely thing. I don't like it, especially the way it bumps up in the front. What do you guys think of it? I'm thinking of asking to have it modified so the front was just straight. Maybe it wouldn't start until about 1 foot in front of the front door.By the way, I think the $1,500 is available to anyone. If you want one, you better act fast because I think they've stopped making the loaded Vibes. And the CARS program has some new funds added so it will last a little longer.

It will be interesting to see what GM posts up Monday. I bought my 2009 Vibe GT on Thursday and it was the last on the dealer lot and you could not find another in SE Michigan. I used the Credit Union special which was supplier pricing plus $250 cash back. That's supposed to end Aug. 3rd. If the 2009s are gone, will they start discounting the 2010 more? Or wait to see what happens with Cash for Clunkers? No point in doing incentives if people are coming in with $4500 towards their purchase.

I wonder if they'll keep the Vibe line running longer if they extend the cash for clunkers thing?

Well, I fixed the pinstripe myself. The dealer was going to do it on Tuesday but I didn't want to give up the car for a day. I just remove the whole part on the front fender and brought the straight part down to a point just before the front bump up starts. Looks much better. My new question: Do you think it is possible I did not get the leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter listed on my window sticker? It all looks so much like vinyl that if it's leather, it's really bad leather. Can anyone tell me how to tell the difference?

If you have stitching on your strg. whl., you've got leather.Don't know about the shift knob. My leather knob looks like it could be PLASTIC.Oh, WELCOME and enjoy your VIBE!

A coworker just bought a 2010 Vibe after seeing my new Vibe and she got over $3000 in incentives. GM has $2500 cash back on the 2010 and the dealer added the $750 manufacturer to dealer incentive. Looks like they want to unload the last of the Pontiacs as fast as possible.

My deal was not the best because I bought a week too soon and it was a 2010 instead of a 2009. My clunker also ended up only worth $3,500 instead of $4,500.Got groceries last night in it and we are really enjoying the pop up organizer in the back. Our first Vibe didn't have this and it is a great feature.I've already removed the head restraints in the outside back seat to improve rearward visibility. I just keep them in the trunk in case I have a passenger who will sit back there.I don't want to wish this summer away but it will be fun to see how the AWD handles this winter.

Sweet deal, I like the jet black color but had to opt for the carbon grey because no dealers had one with all the options i wanted around here.

Russiaville,I have been trying to figure out how to do a pinstripe on my 2009 black Vibe. Is it possible for you to e-mail me a photo of your Vibe so that I can see the pinstripe better? Thanks!Doug

Hi DocDoug,I found out it was hard to photograph the stripe. Here are some attempts. When I got the car, the stripe went front to back. I didn't like the way it followed the upward bump over the front fender (my least favorite design on the car that I didn't want highlighted), so I removed the tape there and just finished the front edge of what was left into a point. There was also an interesting design element near the back that I took a close up shot of. If you like this, I'm sure you could duplicate it yourself or have it done. I've also seen a stripe that runs above the rocket panel at the bottom and it looked good too. Good luck.

I agree. The front hump above the wheel is the ugliest part of the 09-10 Vibe. Thanks for the photos.
