Servicing a Pontiac in the future

Post by shane_c »

So I am debating getting another Vibe. I had a 2006 and sold it when I moved back across the country and picked up a Ford Focus because it was cheap. I've really been missing the Vibe though and the great gas mileage I used to get with it and am able to get a pretty good deal on a used '05 or '06 which will give me a similar payment that I have with the Focus. Anyway..... with Pontiac disappearing soon will we still be able to have the cars serviced by GM? Also, is it possible that a Toyota dealer would service it? Do you foresee any trouble obtaining parts as things break?

I think you'll be fine with buying the Vibe. I spoke to my local dealer's service manager, and he told me that the dealers that sold the Pontiac (whatever model) will still do the repairs and warranty work without a problem. Also, you can bring your Vibe in to a Toyota shop. All the techs know that the Vibe and Matrix are basically identical.

I have no problem recommending the Vibe to anyone in spite of the demise of the Pontiac brand. It's a great car, as you know, and there are tons of them on the road so parts and service will be available for a good long while.Gofer it!

2010 might be the last year for the Matrix as well.

Well, doesn't look like it's going to work out anyway. I was told that our 2 dogs won't comfortably fit back there. They used to fit when I had my '06 but I forgot one of them has grown a lot since then.

Well, after a LOT of thought I think I've made up my mind. For how often we have the dogs in the car with us I think a Vibe/Matrix would work fine. When they do have to come in the car we can just fold the seats flat and put up one of those dog barriers so that we'd still have a bit of room to put our stuff on the folded down seat. We can also look at getting one of those roof boxes for when we go camping to have a little extra cargo room. So my plan is to take the next couple months to pay some off on my credit card and then look to get another Vibe or Matrix at that point, likely one of the 2006-2008 models because I prefer that look on the Vibe. Hopefully I'll be back soon because I've been very disappointed with the gas mileage of my Focus wagon.
