Today General Motors released official word that their 2010 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size trucks again have best-in-class fuel economy. The regular 5.3L V8 equipped models are up from 14/20 to 15/21 thanks to the additional of variable valve timing and a six-speed automatic. The XFE (Extra Fuel Economy) model is up from 15/21 to 15/22.Another advancement that brought about better fuel economy numbers is Active Fuel Management. The cylinder deactivation system is now able to run in four-cylinder mode longer than previous models. None of the changes to the Vortec Small Block engine lineup have affected the trucks' payload, trailer or power statistics. For reference, the following information is the most recent available EPA-estimated comparable fuel economy data for GM's main competitors in this segment.Ford - 5.4L: 14 city / 20 hwy; 4.6L with 6-speed transmission: 15 city / 21 hwyDodge - 5.7L: 14 city / 20 hwyToyota - 5.7L: 14 city / 18 hwy; 4.6L: 15 city / 20 hwyNissan - 5.6L: 13 city / 17 hwy; 5.6L (E85): 13 city / 18 hwyAnd we in Indiana are ready to build you one
And if GM ever brings back the stick shift in it's line of full size trucks, I'll go and buy one! Until then, you're stuck with the F250 (if you can find one...)

I love driving stick. I wish GM would put a stick back in the full size truck.

I may not NEED it, but I'm spending $20000 - $30000, and if it doesn't have what I want then I will not be buying it! I decided to buy the Vibe over the other cars I tested (Patriot, Ranger, Nitro) because it had what I WANTED in a vehicle (Good on gas, 4 doors, Stick, not overloaded with options, and it was cheap!!!) I like the feeling of control a manual tranny gives. The car munufacturers can push and sell all the slushboxes they have, but I choose not to be told what I want or what I need by pushy salesmen. The F250 is the only fullsize, gas powered truck you can buy for under $25000 with a stick! (Canyon and Dakota arn't fullsize) And I'd have bought one too if I could have found a 2wd s/c, but alas, the 4wd vs 2wd debate is for another day!
