window switch problems

Post by tribalman »

i was away from the car when this happened so i'm sure i don't have all the steps with the problem. sister was on the passenger side of the car helping me wash the windows. i went to the store for some products, she went to the drivers side to roll that window down a bit to clean that window when she says her finger slipped off the switch and when she pressed it again the window wouldn't go down. as it is, the front passenger window is rolled down and all the others are up. i cannot use any of the switches on any door to roll up/down any windows. i have made sure the lock button is up, and also tried with it down just to make sure. i do have the ability to lock/unlock the doors and i also have the reverse lights so i am sure it is not the fuse. any ideas? when i took apart the assembly i don't see anything burnt out.from searches the only thing i could find was windows being stuck from lack of use, this is also not an issue as i use the windows everyday.thanks for any and all help.

I'd start by pulling the window switch off and make sure everything is still connected. Then, don't let your sister touch your car again (lol)!

sounds like the connection for the lock out is not making contact like lovemyraffe suggested, by removing the main panel.I can only think of one other possibly. your sister is afraid to tell you that she spilled the window cleaner on the switches, afraid you will spade her LOL

I know it will put a drag on your car's stereo system because you will have to reset everything. But try disconnecting the neg. term of the battery. It's a long shot I know but it's something. She could have shorted out the switches some how.

well here is where it gets interesting. i decided to try the local 'yota stealership. didn't have the master control switch but one about 12 miles away does. i also found out the (lots of kid unfriendly language here) is $400. i don't really want to just buy the thing and find out it's not the problem so i ask if the other dealership will look at my vibe. he walks away to talk to the tech and they say they won't touch it. the wiring might be different. so now tomorrow i have to go to a pontiac stealership to have them run a diagnostic just to make sure, then run back to that place and possibly pick it up. FML i'm hoping upon hope that it's maybe some wires somewhere and not the switch so i don't have to spend a total of $500.i'm going to try disconnecting the battery later.

Before you do that, why not ask David Hawkins if he has one. Probably save some $$$. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=37786

dude, you can get in touch with local junkyards, some don't even need to be local for them to ship parts to you... Don't pay a frikkin STEALERSHIP 400$ for some switches... that's silly.. I just stuck the link to the service manual in my Sig... section 73 is what you need to look at..

i don't know of any local junk yards. my main/only reason for dealing with stealership is i have an open window i want closed so radio/speakers/other isn't stolen. that'll cost wwwaaayyy more to replace. i did try and contact David a few hours ago, just hoping for an IM back.

a short google search gave me that. i called them no vibes or matrices. does the corolla have the same switch? as i went though the repair guide i have i was checking the continuity of the lines they seemed ok until i depress the lock button. the ones that should have continuity don't. to me that doesn't make sense. if the button shows continuity when the lock is disabled, but not then when the lock is enabled means it's maybe not the button but another connection point, or worse, one of the IC chips.

I suppose that's why tech support always asks you if your computer is plugged in before they talk parts with you.

Quote, originally posted by star_deceiver »I suppose that's why tech support always asks you if your computer is plugged in before they talk parts with you.in the repair manual it mentions the regular fuses, but not this one. i didn't see it in the schematics either. as for the tech support, you can't assume anything. i was working on a network switch in class once, i saw the teacher turn it on, then he showed us some things, then stepped to the side to let us students try. i started trying to toss commands to it but couldn't get anything up. turned out he turned it off.Quote, originally posted by jake75 »What is, where is - the kick panel? Sorry I am so stupid.it's not just you. from what he was saying i'm assuming it's the lower half of the dashboard. i've got an afternoon off tomorrow so i'm going to try and find out where it actually is so that if something like this happens again, i know what's there. it wasn't one of the normal type fuses you will find in a car, either the blade type that is used and normally blow, or the tube type. it was box shaped.
