Trading in a 98 cherokee for the voucher, plus dealer discount, and GMS discount, pickup car this coming Monday, Dealer called today and won't be able to deliver tomorrow ( Friday ) as paperwork and procedures not in place yet. 2.4, perfered pkg, auto and 17"s, Darth Vader Black.

Congrats and welcome. I'm another cash for clunkers purchaser. Things are moving slow as far as paperwork and dealer registration. I might be able to pick up my Vibe tomorrow morning, if not then Monday. Just talked to my salesman and he is checking into it. GMS rebate is $4000 on the Vibe right now. Regular rebate is only $2500.

Dealer Ads in today's papers mostly focusing on the Cash for Clunkers. One dealer (ex. Germain Nissan) has an ad with the low net prices in really big type, with a disclaimer in mice size very light type at the bottom explaining that it is after a $4,500 cash for clunkers incentive. Probably very few are misled but I think it makes the dealer look like a shyster. As my mother used to say, they lie when the truth would sound better.Virtually all car ads in Ohio are misleading in my opinion because they fail to include or disclose the padded $250 doc fee - the Attorney General does not make them disclose if not more than $250. A reasonable doc fee might be $100 in my opinion. It was $50 when I bought my 2003 Vibe, $100 when I bought my 2004 T&C and now is $250. IMO manufacturer ads that present prices that do not include the destination charge are also misleading.

Several years ago I was visiting my dad down in Florida and was looking through the Sunday paper... I couldn't believe the low prices they quoted on cars. Then I noticed that all the prices, and monthly payments were based on $5,000 or $7,000 downpayments.Hell, there are plenty of cars that only costs $199/mo if you've got $5k- $10k to put down as a downpayment. Why not just pay cash and not have a car payment at all!! LOL

My recollection is that an auto dealer can charge any fee they want, but if it is over $250 the AG says it has to be disclosed in price advertising etc. The Auto dealer lobby donates a lot of money to Ohio politicians. As I have said many times, Ohio has the best legislature money can buy, and that happens day on and day out. Of course Ohio is not alone in that regard - note recent news about New Jersey, and then there is the Illinois Governor.

I traded in my 99 Ford F150 V8 and got a nice deal on a base Vibe with manual this afternoon. Its so solid, smooth, and quiet, it feels like driving a space ship to me...and the radio rocks to boot. All with excellent mileage and without feeling like an economy car.The manager of the dealership came by telling all the salesmen that the CARS program had officially ended about an hour after my transaction had been registered on the CARS website...whew! That was close!Richard

was that c.a.r.s program just for cars made in the US, or was it for buying any car? seems like the US owning a major stake in certain auto companies, the deal would bee limited to those companies, or at least to cars made in the USA.

If it was limited to cars just made in the U.S. that would have worked against the car companies the govt. bailed out, not helped them. Toyota and Honda would have liked such a restriction.
