I had my Shadow for 15 years and I pretty much know it inside out. Don't buy the after market one because those burn out pretty quick. Also you might want to try to check the stored computer codes. If you turn the ingnition switch on/off/on (Not Start), the check engine light will flash a few sequences of two digit numbers. ie: 33= three short flashes followed by three short flashes. Subsequent numbers will be displayed in a similar fashion. Code 55 means the end of the diagnostic readout.

Sounds like Dad has his priorities wrong. [sarcasm] Let's see, would he rather have you in a car that might get it'swheels stolen, or a car that is so unreliable that you're probably going to get totalled because it died in an intersection. Hmm, some token money, or his son's life/health. Tough choice. [/sarcasm]Is it that after working on the Vibe, he wants it for himself?

I agree with silver. I drove piece of junk after piece of junk when I was in school too. Unfortunately, it was my dad that continually bought me these pieces of junk. He didn't really realize the difference between driving in a real city and the retirement community in which he lives. I was always holding up traffic because my car was always on the verge of stalling. If the Vibe is driveable, take it & run away. When you come home for Thanksgiving, dad'll probably help you finish up the rest ... having long since forgotten about your earlier skirmish. Or, if he's a control freak like my father, he'll document it in a little book, and bring it up many years later. OK, I digress.Like silver said, "Take the Vibe and drive it. "
