GT spoiler option - 2009 Vibe

Post by Kincaid »

Geez what a hassle. My dealer didn't have a GT spoiler (an option on all non-GT Vibes) in stock because they were on national back order. This turned out good because the option is $260 plus installation. I'm not sure how low I could have talked them down if they had had it, but I was able to get it online for about $230 shipped (then found it too late elsewhere for about $210 shipped, but that's another story). So it came in the other day and I've been calling around regarding installation. The dealerships would not give me a firm price on the install. Each one would only give me a range. The first one said $100-150 and the second said from $200-300! The dealer I bought from would have charged me less than $100 (but they are an hour away). A regular body shop I called didn't have it in their repair database so could also only estimate $100-150.Apparently it isn't attached by adhesive and it doesn't use pre-existing bolt holes. They have to put a template on and drill holes to install it.Anyway, the third dealer I called finally gave me a firm quote of $135. Anyone else add this option either thru the dealer at purchase or afterward like me?

Yeah, do it yourself, save yourself some money and get the satisfaction of doing it yourself I'd suggest a tape measure, and a 2nd set of hands/eyes to help you. It's not that hard, I did my midgate in about an hour. (Took a little bit longer because before I drilled I made sure my measurements where spot on at every location, and used a level to make sure it would end up being level.

I just had the dealer put it on - the one that gave me the quote for $135 charged me just $90.Pulling apart trim pieces worries me too much - rather than not have something go back as it should I'd rather pay the professional. Anyway, it looks like there was no drilling involved, the GT spoiler seemed to have the same mounting bolts and guide pins in the same pattern as the stock itty bitty spoiler it replaced. Only took them about 45 mins or less.Looks good!

Question for KincaidI want to get a GT spoiler for my 2010 Vibe. Where did you find it for $210 shipped? Thanks for your time.

gmpartsdirect.com still shows it as $189.28 and I believe the shipping was $20 for me.There was also a post on how to install it yourself - no drilling required after all. Sounds pretty simple and I might have tried it if the description had been posted before I went to have it installed.(edit: now I can't find that post anywhere!).It only comes in four colors so I hope yours is one of the popular ones.

Kincaid - Thanks for your quick response. The current price at gmpartsdirect.com is still $190, but they want $40 shipping to me. The shipping seems a bit steep! Any other ideas on where to buy a spoiler?

I just put a GT spoiler on my black '09. I don't have the receipt handy right now to see where I ended up purchasing it, but google "pontiac 19171937" and you'll pull up several. there are several places that have it right around $200 that'll be $220 or so shipped. The places down in the $187 range are all charging $35-40 shipping, so they are all really within $10 of each other.I also wanted a set of all-weather mats, so I shopped based on the total price and found one place that saved me about $10 on the combined parts.Installation was easy.. there are basic directions in the box. I think all I needed was a 10mm socket and about 20 minutes.

Hey! It's on eBay! The picture is wrong but the description and part number are write. Can be had for $225. Not much more than paying $190 plus $40 shipping. If a local dealer has it in stock (good luck with that), you might talk them down to the shipped price online.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...21307

OK, I think I've found a place that sells them for $208 shipped. Stay tuned for my results. Thanks to Kincaid and abramsgunner. The secret was searching for "pontiac 19171937"; except I used my spoiler color #19171938.

OK Vibers, I have a GT spoiler on order for $208 shipped from alldiscountparts.com. There were some ordering issues, but appear to be resolved. Order time will probably be around 2-3 weeks. I'll let you know when I receive it and how the installation goes.
