I've been thinking of doing a little towing in the vibe, and everything I read tells me that I first want to have an auxiliary tranny cooler. however, not much has told me about the best brands, size, mounting locations, etc. can someone point me in the right direction?edit: i got .4 more liters now

B&M makes good ones. You don't need anything too large, I'm not sure of the sizes available. Mount it up front where it's easy to connect to the existing tranny cooling lines. There's some nice ones at Summit Racing with there own thermostat and electric cooling fan.
To be honest, I just went to a local AAMCO. I asked what they could fit. They looked at it and took some measurments and rifled through a catalog and gave me a couple of prices. I got one installed for $175. It fit pretty easily in front of the radiator behind the horn. The technician claimed it was of sufficient size for a 5-liter engine. Here's a photo of it:

Let me see if my understanding is correct regarding your install........the factory cooler (the one inside the radiator) is bypassed/not used and replaced with the external cooler???????A word of caution with regard to those plastic straps and that type of mounting....with even the slightest amount of movement of the cooler (from every day road bumps), over time, a pin hole can be rubbed into the A/C condensor and or radiator.

I looked under there and the lines go straight from the coils to the transmission. So wherever they went before has been bypassed. I can look more closely tonight if you want. Yeah, that occured to me. I tried jiggle it but it won't budge. It's on there pretty solid. I'll keep an eye on it. It's one of the reasons I paid Aamco - if there's a problem, they get to fix it.
