Hey guys. Picked up my 2009 GT a little over 1 week ago. On my first fill up I thought I got some gas on the paint, so I went to wipe it off. No luck, it would not come off. Apparently gas either got on the car prior to paint, or shortly after paint and discolored the paint and left some run marks and blotting. The dealer is is being great about the whole thing, in fact they have offered to take the car back if I decide I do nto want it. They have had a paint guy look at it, he tried to wet sand and buff, did nto work so it needs to be painted. The area is just under the gas fill and that panel actually arches over the doors and goes all the way to the front of the car. That means eitehr a patched paint job or repaint a rather large panel. The question is this. Should I keep it? I got an awesome deal on the car, $5,500.00 under invoice. I can not get teh same deal on the 2010 they have on the lot, it would be about $4,000 more due to incentives, GM Cash requirements and Dealer Cash. Do I have anything to worry about if this paint guy is good? I know you can not speak for the paint guy's work, but assume he is good is the paint matching better these days? Will it hold up like the factory paint? Am I worried about nothing her?I appreciate your advice.

Usually if the painter is part of the dealership, it should match perfectly. On the other hand, if they are going to take the car back and you can get an 2010 model instead, that's one more year on the warranty.

No, not really. The warrantly will apply from the date of purchase, regardless if I get a 2009 or 2010. Also, the 2010 is going to be quite a bit more expensive. I think the 2010 is out of the question for the time being, the real question is if the 2009 paint looks acceptabel to me, will it look acceptable for years to come. I know it is hard to say without seeing it, but generally speaking is paint today (after market) when applied correctly good to go?

If the body shop is a good one that knows what they're doing I wouldn't be too worried about some paint work. Normally I wouldn't feel that way about a new car but seeing how bad the paint was on the first gen Vibes and a sneaky suspicion that it hasn't got much better, I would rather take it in for some repainting... Anything this side of Maaco is probably an improvement over the factory finish.

Turning back the clock, if they said you can have this 2009 for $16,000 with that small panit defect that we will do our best to remedy, or this 2010 for $20,000 - what would you choose?I suspect "case closed!"

Jake75 - I have looked at it that way, and I come up with the same thing you do... It just stings a little that I negotiated on what I thought was a perfect car (if there is such a thing) and then found a flaw. I think I will accept it assuming I see it tomorrow and you can not see any difference, and I dont think I will. It could get hit by a grocery cart next week and be messed up again. As long as it serves my purpouse for years to come, I am good to go and I assume it will. Thanks guys.

Well guys, I am back in my 2007 base with Moon and Tunes... I went to the dealer, the guy who "fixed" the paint screwed it up worse than it already was. They did not want to fix it again, as they had already painted a brand new car once, cant say that I blame them. I guess I got to drive their 09 GT for free for a week, right at 500 miles worth. Oh well, guess I will be looking for my next deal...

Good news! Are you still in the market for a 2009 or are you just going to stand pat now?
