S/C grinding .... again

Post by 4azdmunky »

So, now that I've had the car running for a little over a month without any issues, the S/C started grinding again. Its not as bad as last time where it sounded like a rock tumbler, but each day it gets a little worse. Not looking forward to another $800 rebuild bill on this thing, anyone know how to make these things more reliable? Does anyone know if Magnuson has TRD nose assemblies? Their web site doesnt say.How about an oil change? Does it have to have S/C oil or would Royal Purple Gear Oil work?

I already have a gatorback belt, I was wondering if it was 1/2 a rib off or something and was causing a vibration. I'll check that out in the morning. Thanks!

Is it grinding when you start it up or when you are under load/in boost? A little noise at idle is normal. Especially until you reach operating temperature. However, it should smooth out when your RPMs get above about 1200-1500 RPM or so. Doe she smooth out at idle when your temps get up? If so, I believe you are OK.

lucked out, turned out the pulley was loose. A little LOC-Tight and a socket, and its all fixed.
