2007 Vibe Monsoon-compatible head units

Post by oliverh72 »

Hi all,Great site. Just got an 07 Vibe with the Monsoon system. Sounds great, but... it's the base deck. No MP3, no changer (and clearly no AUX). So I'd like to upgrade the deck but I don't really want to go 3rd party (security & cost & installation issue reasons) so I'm going to look for an OEM upgraded deck.I thought I should start here first to find which ones will work with my system. I tried to search for it, but well, didn't have much success. I'm mostly just interested in the MP3 unit, though the 6-disc changer looks like it also plays MP3 discs, so that would be fine as well, if it works with the Monsoon. Thanks in advance for all your help. If you have one that is compatible that you're thinking of selling, feel free to offer it to me via PM and perhaps we'll work out a price. I do live in Canada and will pay for shipping. I did notice that Pam's Auto (here: http://www.pamsauto.com/search...=Vibe) has a 6-disc in stock for $150 which looks reasonable. Anyone bought from them? Anyone in Canada? Thanks again,Oliver

6 Disc does not do MP3 playback, I had one in my vibe and that's pretty much the only reason I pulled it.. If it would have done MP3 I probably would have been fine with it. Pam's auto is located where I live. I haven't heard of many problems with them. You're better off going aftermarket and getting exactly what you want.Oh and welcome!

Thanks for the quick response! If Pam's does ever have the stock MP3 deck, will that work with the Monsoon? So, since you've gone aftermarket, what are the issues (wiring harnesses, etc etc) I should be aware of if I go this way? Can any deck plug into the amp to run the sub? Thanks,Oliver

it will be hit or miss. Your better off spending a tiny bit more or even less on an aftermarket unit.Just my 2cents worth

Go aftermarket and don't look back, you can get EVERY option you want that way and it will sound better..

Thanks,OliverNo prob on the response, I can't answer the MP3 stock deck? I would like to say yes, but I don't know.Wiring harness isn't an issue, on a AfterMarket Deck, you don't have to do anything weird just because it has a seperate Amp. There are a few threads here in regards to Installs, the most recent one I remember is Blue Crush's install:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=37490You can do a search for 'head unit' and you'll find them. I know Sublime has one and I believe Keith does too.I didn't use a Line Out Gain Adjuster, I probably could/should have.. maybe some other day...

Thanks everyone. The main reason I wanted to stick with stock is the look of it - it looks a bit more 'finished' than a lot of the aftermarkets+adapter cover. That, plus I was uncertain if the adapters/cables/hookup kits would be expensive. I'm likely going to just pay for an install anyway - I don't have the time or the patience to mess with it any more. I've been looking a bit at some 2-DIN decks. Do any of them stand out as being superior, or are they all more or less preference when they're about the same feature-wise?Oliver
