http://www.metrompg.com/posts/pulse-and-glide.htm"Pulse and glide works like this: let's say you're on a road where you want to go 60 km/h. Instead of driving along at a steady 60, you instead accelerate to 70 (that's the pulse), and then coast in neutral with the engine off down to 50 (that's the glide). That's it. Rinse and repeat. And repeat. And repeat..."Personally I'd prefer a bullet to the head, but the author of the linked page claims he improved his mpg, at an average speed of 50 mph, in a Geo Metro, from 59 mpg to 68 mpg. This method might work in certain areas, but not where I live. When I travel 45 minutes south of my house I get over 40 mpg, I drop almost 3000 ft. On the way north, going up 3000 ft, I don't get that kind of mileage. I usually get 32-33 mpg round-trip. Driving like this causes problems. Keep up with the flow of traffic. If your speed regularly 20 mph (50-70) you are a hazard.
