Cleaning vinyl cargo cover

Post by Mr Magoo »

Okay, got a cargo cover on eBay. Big disappointment all the way around. First off, wow is this thing cheesy! Not only that, but the cover arrived covered with black specks all over it. Seems to be some sort of grease or petroleum based substance, but I'm not sure of that. I've tried cleaning it with Armorall Interior cleaner, Fantastic, and 409 with no effect. Any suggestions as to what I can use to clean this thing? After buying and selling on eBay for 11 years, I finally got shafted. Seller is a total tool and isn't offering to do much about it.

From my own experience; once something gets on the cargo cover, it doesn't come off easily. Mine has a few spots on it from something and I tried everything I found to get it off to no avail. I'm not to concerned about it though. I put it in there to hide the stuff I am transporting and I don't spend a whole lot of time admiring it. The way you are describing yours, it sounds like it is more than just a few spots and that would drive me crazy too.

Did they state that it was used and did the pics show it with spots? Did they have any negative feedbacks? I once bought a small "vintage" ceramic vase that the seller claimed had no crazing or cracks in it, but was covered with cracks as if it were glued back together. I notified the seller, who offered a refund (claimed her eyes were "not what they used to be") if I sent it back, but aw heck I just kept it because it wouldn't have survived another trip in it's condition. I still have it outside, I just don't touch it.

They did say it was used, but also said it was in "It is in great condition; no rips or tears and all clips are intact.". They do have a 100% rating. Photo was stock and dark. In fact he has more for sale right now with the same photo. No where in his ad does it tell that the picture is not the item being offered. I think that is wrong and I told him that. BTW, I did use a product called De-Solv-It that seems to work. Didn't remove 100%, but it also didn't hurt the vinyl. I thought about trying a Bug and Tar remover, but I'm not sure if it will leave some sort of residue in the nooks and crannies that will be hard to remove.

Want me to take pics of my cargo cover. I made it myself from scratch and it has been flawless!

LOL I know right. I just could never stand the vinyl cover. They offered to give me a new one free when I got my used 05 Matrix. I was like, what for, it doesnt roll up nicely, it's flimsy, and does not cover the area well.

Mine had been in the closet since I bought the car. Yours looks pretty sweet.
