According to this Montreal French Newspaper (La Presse), GM will announce next Monday that the Vibe will survive? Is it true, or that journalist got mixed-up with the fact that the Vibe is suppose to still be produce up to late 2010?I couldn't find that information elsewhere.http://monvolant.cyberpresse.c...c.php

I've emailed the link to 2 translators, but because of the time difference between me and France (exactly 12 hours) it'll be awhile before they reply to me. They're still sleeping.

here's what i got from google translator =PAgainst all odds, the Pontiac Vibe escape the guillotine of the GM. C'est du moins ce que laisse entendre le site médiatique du constructeur américain qui précise même les transformations apportées à ce modèle pour 2010. This at least suggests that the site of the American media, which even specifies the changes made to this model for 2010. On the site reserved for media professionals, we learn about the Vibe that air conditioning is now on the features of different delivered (base, AWD and GT), a roof rack available on the livery AWD while delivered equipped with the 1.8 liter engine can be ordered with groups Cargo management "and" Sun & Sound ". Against all odds, the Pontiac Vibe will survive the GM cuts. According to the GM media relations website, even some modifications will be done.GM Canada management will confirm on Monday during a press conference all vehicles that will be wearing the GM emblem for next year (Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC)On the private media website, we could learn, for the Vibe, that the A/C will be delivered to all packages, a roof rack (roughly translated, it sounds like a cargo box or more racking options) will be delivered with the AWD package and 1.8L engines can be delivered with the Cargo management and/or "Sun and Sound" options.blablabla Toyota partnership, blablabla NUMMI blablabla California.70839 Vibes where produced last year.Sounds a bit like this (CAREFUL lots of Vibe haters wrote comments): http://jalopnik.com/5285970/sw...oyota

Here my translation:The Vibe will survive Pontiac.Against all odds, the Pontaic Vibe will escape the ax from GM. This is at least what the American constructor’s media site mention and even precise the transformation for this model in 2010.Monday the GM Canada direction will confirm the new, together with which vehicle list will defends it’s colours (Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet & GMC).On a site reserved for media professionals, we learn that the air conditioning will now be a standard feature of the different model (Base, AWD & GT), a roof rack will be offer on the AWD while the 1.8 L engine configuration could also be equipped with the “cargo group” & the “Sun & Sound”.Joint venture with Toyota in the USA, the Vibe is assembled at the NUMMI (New United Motor Manufacturing Inc.) factory located in Fremont, California. Last year 70 839 Vibe were built.

It would not be all that surprising to see the Vibe under the Buick nameplate. GM had already said that there would be some broadening of the Buick line at the lower end. Keeping the Vibe would make more sense than putting a different dress on a Chevy model. Plus it might help avoid the need for a fire sale to sell out the Pontiac version, so if GM is going to keep Vibe as a Buick it is in their best interest to let it be known as soon as possible. Finally, it solves the immediate question of what to do with the Nummi operation. After all the *****ing and moaning here about the demise of the Vibe it would be funny to see that the Vibe will continue after all.And - wouldn't you really rather have a Buick! Now if Chrysler changes its mind on the PT Cruiser . . . all the small car nuts of the world would rest easier.

There was a story on Naitonal Public Radio yesterday in the US that interviewed a Chevrolet dealer in Maryland who had dropped the brand in favor of Nissan. His experience was that Chevy was an "entry-level" brand and no one in the wealthy suburbs of Bethesda would park one next to their Mercedes; it has no status.http://www.npr.org/templates/s...63320 I'd say Buick, but I'm not thrilled with it...

Can our French contingent come up with a new Buick-ish Vibe name? How about something out of 'Joie de Vivre'... could it be Buick Joie de Vibe? How about the Buick Sur le Vibe... or Buick Sur-Vibe. Buick Rendez-Vous Vibe. My last shot, I promise... Buick Deja vu Vibe. If the Vibe lives on within the remaining Chevy/Buick/Caddy/GMC brand structure, could we get someone to make those little white oval country ID stickers with - Sur - on them so we can stick them in front of our Vibe badge on the rear hatch?

I foound this article about this:http://news.car2be.com/2009/06...and-2/From what I understand, it just says that there will be a last Vibe for 2010, not that the Vibe will survive after 2010.

And although Buick has been getting better reviews in the past few years, that does not mean the Vibe should be converted into a Buick. Look at the current Buick's being sold vs. the Vibe. Buick has nice smooth, rounded lines while the Vibe is much more aggressive looking. The Vibe doesn't really have a place in any of the surviving GM brands. Obviously not GMC, I just wrote about Buick, and definitely not Cadillac. Chevy would be the best option, but I am afraid that it would not be a Vibe but a Cobalt wagon/5door. Similar size as the Cobalt. It saddens me to say this, but maybe it is time for the Vibe to be done. It fits well in the Pontiac name. IMO it doesn't fit with Buick or Cadillac and I wouldn't want to see it as a Chevy. It would look terrible. Look at the Chevy Aveo and the Pontiac G3. Now in your minds, think of the Vibe with a Chevy front end like the Aveo (sorry, I completely suck at photoshop or I would do it for you).

Buick dealers are looking for an "entry vehicle". GM has signaled that they will get one . . . or two. Many car buyers are not that critical when it comes to the styling of the grill etc.. As long as a Buick Vibe is not Aztek ugly, the desired functional features and reliability would sustain it. That said, I think the odds are against any GM version of the Matrix surviving after the 2010 model year but perhaps even GM itself doesn't know the answer to that at the moment. It would certainly be a "shovel ready" addition to the Buick lineup. The key probably is whether it is the more profitable choice for GM. If the GM version went away, I suspect that a significant portion of the Vibe sales would migrate to the Matrix. That portion attracted to the Vibe because of GM Card rebates and other deals likely would go elsewhere. I bought my '03 at 5,059 under msrp and '09 at 7,563 under msrp - probably not very interested at $20,000.

I could even see it coming back as a GMC, the Acadia's little bro. Buick grilles look fine on those big ol' boats but not so much on the Vibe.As for whether it's time for the Vibe to go or not, I would think that GM, having just invested time and money on the redesign, would like to get at least two more model years out of it. The name should disappear, I agree, if and when it belongs to another marque.

Probably because there is no basis for the rumor that the Vibe will go beyond model year 2010. I personally think that the Canadian article was just commenting on the fact that the Vibe is the only 2010 Pontiac. There are some logical reasons why GM might do that - Buick needs to broaden its line at the lower end, GM has to do something with their NUMMI interest, GM just spent a lot of money on a redesign, etc. But when it comes to the American auto industry, what's logic got to do with it. Automobiles are like streetcars, there will be another one along in a few minutes. Maybe Penske will buy GM's Nummi interest, who knows!
