U-Haul Hitch?

Post by genki »

Hi everyone!I've been looking for a hitch and have looked through some of the posts here in regards to hitches/bike racks. A friend showed me this hitch last night from U-Haul and I was wondering if anyone has ever installed this hitch.Just wondering if it is good or not.http://store.uhaul.com/hitch_detail.aspx?id=6614 Thanks in advance!Kevin2009 Vibe/1SC

I installed one on my 2009 1SB with no major issues. The only problem I've found is that the tailpipe sits within 1/2" of the hitch - and occasionally will hit - especially when in reverse. To dampen the noise, I cut a piece of an old radiator hose, put it around that portion of the hitch, and tied it in place with a couple of nylon ties. No more noises! As for the hitch itself - it seems very well assembled and made (by Curt if I remember correctly). It's very sturdy. The drawbar I've got seems to make a lot of noise rattling around when towing - but it was one I had from years ago. Maybe a new one from the same manufacturer would be a tighter (and quieter) fit. My boat that I was towing was rather light at the time though (empty) - so maybe more of a load would keep it from moving around so much.Just be careful when backing up to a curb - it's a little low - but any hitch will be the same I would think. It comes with the proper bolts - so all you have to do is put them in and torque them down. It took me far longer to route the wiring than to install the hitch. It's only about a 10 minute job, if you take your time.Hope this helps!John

Mine is a uhaul branded hitch, you can kind of see it in the picture. I have not used it but the previous owner told me he pulled a small uhaul trailer from michigan to texas with it with no problems.

I bolted (4 each) a Hidden Hitch on my '08 last week. Very easy. Nothing hits. Not yet anyway. And it is nearly hidden. Don't they make something for a noisy receiver?

Don't they make something for a noisy receiver? Noisy reciever? like it's bouncing around inside the hitch pocket? Maybe for 2" hitches, but the 1.25" doesn't get a hack of a lot of backing, being so light duty.. you might find something somewhere.. I had a U-Haul hitch on my old Subaru and LOVED it...!!! I did so many things with that car and hitch.. It hauled EVERYTHING.. I mean everything.. towed numerous vehicles... (they are stronger than they make them out to be.. )I might get another for the new subie..

Was refering to j45.snyder's comment about 'noisy drawbar'. Should have been more specific, inserting quote or something. I only use my hitch for bike rack duty and have not noticed any noise yet. Maybe if I towed a trailer it would sound off? Would a very slim membrane of some sort to slightly tighten the bar in the receiver? Someone heard of a commercial product for this?
