Second thoughts???

Post by ParknVibe »

Is anybody having second thoughts about purchasing a new 2009 or 2010 Vibe now that Pontiac will no longer be around? Or, will you still buy a new Vibe because you like it regardless of GM/Pontiac's future?

i'll probably have a second thought, i don't know tho. if i were shopping for a new car, i think i would still choose the 09 vibe GT. i still like the styling and not many people have it here haha i can now say i own one of pontiac's last good cars or something like that =D

Maybe a little. I knew the vibe`s resale wasn`t so good compared to the Matrix, but I liked GM`s warranty, and I liked the car design better, so for me it evened out in my mind. But now it`s not evening out. I think the resale hit it to big right now for the Vibes.

A rose by any other name - if it were a Chevy Vibe or a Buick Vibe or a GMC Vibe it would be no different. GM is going to be there to service it and back the warranty the same no matter what brand. Or not be there to service it and back the warranty no matter what brand. There was no Pontiac Corp or Chevrolet Corp. It was just GM Corp. I don't think there will be any attempt to screw Pontiac owners by placing those obligations in a separate entity. If they did some smart lawyers would be filing a class action suit faster than you could say "ouch".

If I were to relive April 2008 knowing what I do now, I would still lease the 2009 Vibe.Since I am leasing the car, I am not overly concerned about resale value. That being said, I doubt resale values will plummet. My understanding is that Oldsmobile still held value when that brand was discontinued. If resale values do significantly decrease, I may pick up a newer/lower mileage off-lease Vibe when my lease runs out. I could save money viz-a-viz buying out my Vibe and I can still use my current snow tires!

I went back and forth for many months on whether or not to get an '09 Vibe GT. After researching many other cars, I decided the Vibe GT had exactly what I wanted and needed so I got one. I have and always will be a diehard Pontiac lover, whether they're still around or not.As stated before, GM will still honor our warranties and all, so I definitely have no second thoughts about getting it. As a matter of fact, I couldn't be happier with it!

Thank you for your comments. Would like to hear from more GenVibe folks to react to my question. Also, I am very surprise during the past year in how loyal all the Vibe owners are to this forum and to your Vibes. I do not feel this truely deep and continous interest with other car forums such as the Matrix. I think it is because it is, in part, easy to use this forum and to search for comments, questions, and answers concerning the Vibe.

I bought a 2003 back in 2002 that I still have and just bought a new 2009 about two weeks ago. If, God forbid, this new one gets totaled, I'll replace it with another new Vibe. With the government backing warranties and lots of other GM dealers around, there's nothing to worry about.

I didnt buy a vibe because it was a pontiac or a GM. I bought it because its a toyota and I could use my GM card rebate on it. the best of both worlds.Im not worried about resale because Id sell my chevy's and drive my vibe into the ground.

IF I had the cash to pay for it in full, or IF it weren't so soon in the Countrywide-BOA transition and I could ReFi again, I'd do it in a heartbeat. because even though GM made a stupid mistake and didn't believe in the line, I do. All my money goes into fixing up my house from the damage that was done, painting, refurnishing, and medical expenses.
