I have a 09 vibe, 1.8 and i am planning to do all the maintenance myself. I know the oil is changed every 5000 kms but can anybody tell me what is done at each maintenance interval, IE air filter, cabin filter etc ectThanks Ian
You definitely should refer to the owner's manual. For example, the oil change interval specified is 8,000km, not 5,000. I can't remember if they said that the time interval was 3 or 6 months - unimportant to me, as I put about 3,500 on per month. Make sure you stick with the recommended 5W20 or 0W20.IIRC, air filter shouldn't exceed 50,000km, and cabin filters probably need changed about every 25,000km - but that really depends on a lot of factors - so I would just check it every oil change - and when it starts looking like it should be changed (or you notice the airflow is reduced) - then just change it. I haven't yet priced one out - but I'm going to bet that they're cheaper from Toyota.Your transmission service will vary depending on auto/manual and how it's used (hills, towing, high temperatures, etc.). Again - follow the manual.I think the spark plugs are supposedly good for 192,000km. We'll see how that goes! I'm going to crack mine loose long before that just to make sure they'll come out without issue - and while it's under warranty.I'm currently waiting for the service manuals to come into stock at Helm Inc., so that I can get my copy. I'm sure that there are a lot more details in there than what our owner's manuals tell us. I just hope it's as well written as the 2002 Sunfire/Cavalier manual I have. Some of their illustrations were questionable - but most of the details and explanations were excellent. In contrast, the service manual I have for my wife's Ford product isn't nearly as useful IMHO. The second half of almost every procedure in the book is summed up as "installation is the reverse of removal" - and it didn't include ANY information for dealing with OBDII trouble codes. I should have just bought the Haynes or Chilton's version for that thing - probably just as useful or better!Right in your owner's manual, it mentions that if you're doing your own service work that you should purchase the service manual. Probably a wise investment - especially if there was ever a failure under warranty that could be blamed on improper maintenance. I expect that based on the history of the previous generation that this won't be a likely scenario, but still probably worth considering.Make sure you're familiar with what you need (tool-wise) for the oil filter change on the 1.8. If you search the threads on here, you'll see what I'm talking about. I'm just glad I have the 2.4 - nice and easy!If anyone else out there has managed to get their hands on a 2009 Vibe service manual - I'd be interested to hear what it's like. I just hope they come in again soon - both my brother and myself have '09's - so I'm sure it will be useful over the years.John
You can buy online from Helm. They publish it for GM. For the 2009 Vibe,i it cost $150.00 for the set plus shipping. It is three big books. Almost a total of a foot thick. What do you mean by "2009 MY" ???Here is the web site:http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp?I just checked the site and they are out stock for now (again!). I had to wait for a few months before placing my order. You can give Helm your E address and they will let you know when it is available. The Vibe must be very popular
