HID kits price range!?!?!

Post by BadBrew »

I've been browsing through my favorite auction site trying to find a bi-xenon kit for headlights and a standard xenon for fogs but I have a hard time to choose which kit could be the be for my car.I guess that chinese bi-xenon at less than 100$US (+40$ shipping) are the most likely to break after a few months but I also found a Philips brand kit at 190$US (+ 30$ shipping). There's a few in-between going from 120 to 150$ from US sellers.Any input on that? Also can someone tell me if the delay between hi and lo can go up to 30 secs with some brands? Philips claims to be instant switching...Slim ballasts or not? I don't think it's useful for us...Thanks!!!

I got my 8k kit through a friend for $175 CDN. It's some kind of German kit with slim ballasts. I'd go with the slim ballasts just because I've seen the non-slim ballasts and they're HUGE. I've had it on for about 5 months now and it works great. Light output isn't that great when it rains since it's an 8k kit. So I'd suggest going for 4300k or 6k.Delay between hi and lo is instant. It switches just like the stock halogens do. The bulb simply aims up and down with a flick of the switch.

If you want to do things the proper, and fun, way, then get yourself a projector kit and do a retro fit. Last I seen Keith has his original retrofit headlamps for sale since he decided to go another route. He may still have some projectors for sale as well. Check with him.

I've seen a few projector kits also like this really interesting one: http://cgi.ebay.ca/H4-HB2-9003...%3A50 But it's kind of pricey and I don't really want to completely dismantle my headlights to install these... But I must admit that they look really cool Especially with the angel eyes if we can find a way to run them as DRLs!For the ballasts... I guess there's enough place in our huge engine compartment My concern is more about the fragility of the small ballasts againt heat, road salt, bumps....And I was heading for the 6000k color for legal reasons, I've seen a coworker having a ticket for his 8000k...

HID kits are so cheap now. I remember when I bought my first HID kit back in 2002 for my accord it cost me over $550 for the kit. Now it costs from $50-$150 for a decent set. It was well worth it back then since it gave great lighting and was unique. Not many people have it back then. Now they're everywhere since it's so affordable. If you want to be unique go with that projector route =P

I sell the same kits brother... I also have a set of already retrofitted headlights for sale.Check the link in my siggy for photos. there are photos in my garage and the link to the group buy I was holding.I currently have an h4 projector kit instock with a white halo ready to ship.235shipped to the lower 48... and I'm not going to give you a hassle if you have an issue. Good luck trying to get the ebay seller to help you.here is the set of headlights i'm selling, they have a red haloThe complete headlight set up with new slim ballasts and new light controlers for each headlight is 500, plus shipping.Considering each kit is 235, each vibe headlight is 150 each. This is a bargin.

as far as switching from low to highbeam. it's instant. you simply use your standard stalk on the side of the steering wheel. With the projectors it just drops the shield to give the highbeam. With the plug and play hids the bulb either tilts or moves in or out causing the bulb to reflect off a diff portion of the headlight.Hit me up in PM is you need any further info. I'm the self proclaimed HID guru here LOL

Proud future owner of HID projectors from Keith! Thanks Keith! Now any advice for HID fogs? Does it worth it going for yellows (lower than 4300k)? For night vision or real fog/rain conditions?

I'd really really really really like to have the red halos... but can't use them...The policemen told me they'd kill one kitten for every minute of use Seriously, I don't want to have a spare headlight set, I know i'll keep the projector as long as my car keeps going from A to B Besides, I saw your red "backlight" on the projectors, could be another cool project for me!

Mando your compairing a plug and play kit to projectors. Of course projectors are going to cost more... Benefit's of projectors are that you won't be blinding oncoming traffic with your reflector hid kit. It focuses the light better. And if you have xenon your saying you don't have hi-beams anymore?
