Ok, many thanks to the people who gave me some tips on towing a trailer. I decided I didn't want to risk my car for some stuff I can easily buy again.So... I have a fully loaded car travelling from Seattle, over the rockies, to NY at the end of June. Is a tranny cooler a good idea? I picked one up: Hayden Ultra-Cool 401... provides up to 60 degrees additional cooling. It was $30... but I've been doing a bunch of reading here, and most people are saying it costs around $50. Should I pick up some tranny fluid too? What kind do I get?Sorry if there are some noob questions... I'm trying to do this myself, as it seems like it's possible...
A trans cooler would be an excellent idea for that trip. There will be lots of shifting around going over those mountains. If you don't end up getting one you can do your trans a favor and put it in second when you point it up a steep hill so it doesn't have to heat up.

It's always a good idea to put a transmission cooler on when you are towing with a full load. Just make sure you use quality hoses and clamps. The best method to adding a transmission cooler is to use AN fittings with braided lines.Just place the cooler core somewhere there is plenty of airflow.
I'm debating this. I'd like to tow a trailer. I figure I can get a pickup truck to do it for about $20k, or I could replace my transmission 6 or 7 times for the same price...
