Bad tire karma = new rubber!

Post by ehoff121 »

Just got a new set after puncturing TWO tires in the same week on different days. With 45,000 miles on the factory set, I figured it was time.Bought four new Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grid tires and so far am happy with the purchase.Details: 205/55R16 91H 460 A Ahttp://www.tirerack.com/tires/...ing=T The tread is directional and deep. I went with the H rated tires for better traction in winter.Got good reviews at tirerack.com, but some complained about noise. They are a bit louder at low speed than stock tires, but it sounds more like an aggressive "growl" than noise to me.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune with the old tires, but congrats on the new rubber!I had a similar problem, pulled up to my apartment, and heard air leaking from one of the tires. Already had the spare on another tire. Had to drive a couple blocks on the flat to the Goodyear shop and have 4 new tires put on. Then they had a hard time getting my car onto their ramps with the flat tire and the lowered suspension hehe.

I have a few things that I need to clear up with you though... First, speed rating (the H rating you went for) has ZERO to do with winter traction, in fact the speed rating has nothing to do with traction at all.. The speed rating is a designation of how much heat the tire can dissipate under load, at speed for a given amount of time.. You picked the correct speed rating for the car, because it's a slow car, but you could have gone with a Z or W rated tire and been just as well.. Faster more exotic cars have Z rated rubber(which is a misnomer, because it's a rating for the whole tire, not just the rubber), because if you travel at high speed for any length of time, the tires will heat up.. You won't be spending much time at 130mph in a Vibe, but you may in a Vette... So you see, the speed rating has nothing to do with it... This should help... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...id=35Now, as far as running them in the winter... well, I'm kinda known around here as the winter tire guy... HUGE advocate for winter tires.. see my signature.. lol...
