Oil Filter Location

Post by Alan »

Even after reading everything I can find, I still cannot find the oil filter. After owning at least 12 vehicles in my life this is the first time I cannot find the oil filter. On bit of info said it is forward and to the passenger side of the drain plug. I find some sort of aluminum coloured thing and then the drive belt.Must the vehicle be up on ramps to see it?

Alan, it is a horizontal canister covering a paper filter and O ring inside. The canister's cap faces you when you crawl under the car, near the oil pan. You need to simply use a 14 fluted, 65mm filter cup on the end of a socket. You may have to push the stupid metal clip on the side out of the way. I can't for the life of my figure out what the stupid clip is for. If Toyota seriously things the canister is going to back itself off and come unscrewed, I have some GM stock to sell them. Toyota sells the paper filter and rubber O ring (part # 04152-YZZA6). I wish they had stuck with the screw on filter for the Corolla engine, but it is not too hard to take off.
