Does anybody have Magic Jack? I'm thinking about getting rid of my crappy cable internet and going back to the phone company since they offer DSL in my area now. I was going to get Magic Jack to avoid long distance phone fees.

I've never heard of that, but you seriously need to get rid of that cable and their crappy service. I would demand a credit for all the time you were without service.
I have never personally used one but where I work there is an analyst who is Indian (India), and he said that the thing was incredibly useful. He did say that the sound quality was not as good as a regular phone, but on trips home he said that he can plug the thing in to any computer and he has phone service. I was on a group support call when he was on the thing while he was home in India and the quality that I got from my end was not noticeably any different than anyone else on the call.

Charter Cable is officially at the top of my hate list. Customer service is horrible.

I use Directv for my television, and only used Charter for cable internet. It used to be cable or dail up, since I basically live in the sticks. Now the phone company (Embarq) is offering DSL. My house has no physical connection to Embarq, so I was content to stay with Charter. I didn't want to go through the hassel of getting Embarg hooked up to the house. I'm one of those people that hates change. But after a month of internet that's been offline more than online, Charter is forcing my hand.

I'm looking into the geriatric dog topical stuff you requested. I had to ask an expert's advice. Thank you for your patience. *poor baby* My doggie sends a healing Big Wet Kiss on that nose for now...
I still can't get DSL, and would love to get Verizon's FIOS, but it will never be run out to here. A lot of people I know are just ditching their land lines and going cell only.
I have one-it works ok. Not great, not bad, but ok. If you can sacrifice a bit of quality for price, you may like it. Some problems people experience are echo, delay and dropped calls. But this goes for other voip services as well. If you're interested, check out Magic Jack Support. Would also be good for someone who travels a lot, either domestically or internationally, and doesn't want to use their cell or hotel phone. Just bring the laptop, magic jack and a phone-assumes broadband service in the hotel or where ever it is being used.
