S/C and CAI?

Post by Shadow Realm »

To all of you who went to the Michigan meet, Did anyone ask if our CAI's that we have now will be able to be used if you buy the S/C? From the pics, it doesn't look like the CAI will fit.Shadow Realm

From what I seen there, the current CAI's will not fit if you have a supercharger installed. The S/C changes the position and direction of the throttle body. If you want a CAI, one will have to be specifically designed for the Vibe with a supercharger.

I agree with TritonGT. The throttle body on the base Vibe is tilted up at a slight angle whereas the throttle body on the supercharger is almost exactly horizontal and perhaps a bit further to the right overall. You will need a new intake with the supercharger.

Thanks!! That's what I thought but I figured that I would get a second opinion.

I've seen people cut and modify their CAI's to fit S/Cs and turbos on other cars. Is this possible or is it too far from the original position?

The throttle body didn't really move anywhere from left to right, but the angle has changed. The way it sits now is almost 45 degrees and the way it sits after the S/C is almost straight across. Take a look at this pic of the S/C.

I don't know.... I'd think it could be done though.... the new throttle body to airbox hose assembly shown in the picture very likely comes with the S/C kit right?Sure looks like it wouldn't be that hard to modify that hose to mate to a CAI -- might need to shorten the CAI at the throttle body end just slightly....

That's what I was thinking, too. Otherwise you can just cut it down to a short ram intake

It should fit. I saw a TRD Matrix with the SC and CAI installed. For a picture go to http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4289865075There are several pictures in the album, just scroll through them to see the SC with CAI.
