Sad times, indeed. My first of four Pontiacs purchased new was a 1967 Firebird 400 convertible that I liked so much I kept it for thirteen years. I've attached a photo of that great car, although maybe I screwed up with that end of things. Even after all these years, I'm kicking myself for selling it.It's really nice having this site back.

I owned previously:1987 Sunbird (bad car, got lots of problems with the engine)1996 Sunfire (great car, I left it at 353,000 km and it was still in good shape)and now the 2009 Vibe, which I love so far...From what I recall, my dad is a huge GM customer too. He owned a 1969 Buick Le Sabre, a 1980 Pontiac Grand Prix, a 1987 Pontiac Sunbird (which I inherited later), and he still has his 1992 Buick Regal.
I sad day but at least we have nothing to be scared of. This is just like the day Oldsmobile got the axe. GM is still there, still obliged to manufacture spare for the next 10 years and to stand behind our warranties like any other GM car. That being said; Why the f*** is Pontiac being killed off before Hummer......

seehttp://www.leftlanenews.com/po....htmlGeneral Motors officially announced on Monday its Pontiac brand will be phased out by the end of 2010, but the marque’s brightest star – the G8 – won’t even make it that far. GM CEO Fritz Henderson announced earlier today the G8 sedan will be phased out by the end of this year.According to Henderson, Pontiac’s relationship with Holden – GM’s Australian subsidiary and maker of the G8 – will end by the end of 2009. Henderson said production of the Pontiac G8 will wind down by the end of the year, with the automaker prepared to offer heavy incentives to get the performance sedan off dealer lots. News AU estimates the end of the Pontiac G8 will cost Holden more than $750 million in lost revenue.Additionally, Henderson said GM has no plans to move any Pontiac models to other brands. That means the Pontiac Solstice will ride off into the sunset shortly after the G8, with the Vibe likely to be the last model standing in the Pontiac lineup. The Vibe is made at a joint-venture plant with Toyota, with the five-door wagon set to be produced through 2010. The Pontiac G3 — essentially a rebadged version of the Chevy Aveo — and the G6, a platform mate of the Chevy Malibu, will also be discontinued.

I wonder if the Vibe will get transferred to another GM division.Just my immediately family has owned owned (of just Pontiacs - lots of other GM products as well):2 Pontiac Transports1 Pontiac Grand Am4 Pontiac VibesIt's too bad that for so many years people screamed at GM that we needed a RWD sedan from Pontiac to replace the Grand Prix. It took GM nearly 10 years to realize that Holden had their golden ticket just waiting for them. Too bad the G8 was too little, too late. Not that a RWD sedan would have saved Pontiac necessarily, but I do think a Holden based RWD platform replacing the 1997-newer W-Body platform would have been a big step in the right direction.
Buick won't go away. They sell like crazy in Asia. Not to mention Buick has been gaining ground in the US.Saturn will be next to go since they are re-badged Opels for the most part. Fairly sad that Pontiac is going away, the G8 was a phenomenal car. I wanna see how the Unions react, from what I hear they are still going to get their benefits and pay.
Hey everyone -- I know I've been away for a while, but I still lurk every so often. My time is spread so thin these days, but I thought it was important to post in this thread as STILL a loyal and happy Pontiac owner. Yes, I still have my '03 GT -- just couldn't give it up, and now she's paid for

Congrats on paying her off.

its also offical that Saturn will be phased out by the end of the year unless someone wants to buy them. it should be the other way around, they should put Pontiac Up for sale.
This is sad when my parents bought cars, it was either a Dodge (we get the Chrysler employee discount) or a Pontiac. As for the Pontiacs, they have owned:1988 Grand Am (traded for the 1990)1990 Grand Am (traded for the 1992)1992 Grand Am (passed to me for my first car, I sold it for a Dodge Intrepid)1997 Bonneville (bad trans, traded for the Prix)2004 Grand Prix (traded for new Dodge Avenger)and then my 2003 Vibe GT.With Chrysler on the brink, and Pontiac going, I guess that my family is screwed!I have owned Chevy, Ford, Pontiac, BMW, and Dodge... and the Vibe is by far my favorite (ive owned it the longest out of all the others!). I will truly miss Pontiac

Not readily available from "jobbers" (other than GM) so surely overpriced? The rules are 10 years? What will happen if the car is still going in more than 10 years and a part breaks? With the value of the Vibes that will be close to zero, I bet I'll keep mine very long...I really feel like a sucker having bought a Vibe last year. I should have gone with the Matrix...
Quote, originally posted by kowell »That being said; Why the f*** is Pontiac being killed off before Hummer......GM is keeping Hummer going because they know they can eventually sell it. Plus, it makes military vehicles, doesn't it? I'm surprised that they're not moving the Solstice over to Chevy. It was one of their hottest cars last summer. One of only a few models that had double-digit sales increases.

Plus, with the global economic slowdown, many luxury car buyers are now "down-grading" from Lexus, BMW and Infiniti to Buicks and GM is going after the market. Actually, some of the new Buicks are pretty nice, just not my style of car.
