Layed off...

Post by Sublimewind »

So,It's my turn to add to the already higher than the rest of the country, Michigans unemployment statics.. I'm not overly worried though, I left on good terms, wasn't performance based in any way... In fact, I had a 2:30 meeting and about 2:00 I saw another contractor being walked out (I contract to Dow Corning, through Adecco Technical, or did) So I knew, espically after getting the note in the morning that I had a meeting with someone from Adecco that I had never officially "met" with before... I had been preparing for it all day in fact.. lol.. Actually, we've known about 800 being cut for a month, so everyone have been on "pins n needles" for awhile... I worry more about my colleague Ludmil, he's from Bulgaria and has been absolutely FREAKED out by all of this.. He has a lot more riding on this and being from another country has got to be scary in this situation.. At least now, I have the time to work on the car audio... money won't quite be there, but I have 80% of the things I need to finish.. I need some polyester resin (fiberglass) some kitty hair and some bondo.. Something to cover everything (CF cloth) and a small amount of power wire.. to get my finished... to do it the way I would like a DieHard Platinum and a hi-amp alt would also need to be gotten..

Sorry to hear that. Although it's not what you were wanting to hear, I'm sure it is a relief in a sense that you finally know something opposed to being in limbo. At least you do have a positive outlook on things!!!

Sorry to hear it man. I think we're entering something of a new phase in our society where we can't really rely on a single job or career to see us through. More and more, you hear about people just cobbling together freelance jobs, independant stuff, consulting, etc to supplement their "main" job. Heck, I do it. I work a full time job, tattoo on my days off and sell things on eBay in my spare time. You just have to show a little (removed) and ingenuity and you'll be okay.Any chance of you getting side work installing car audio, or going to work for a shop that does that kind of work?

I'm sorry to hear that. I wish the best for you and Ludmil. The same thing happened to the husband of a friend of Kari & I. As Bodhi mentioned, now might be a good time to start eBaying/craigs/swapmeet stuff you don't need. I really need to start doing this now too since I've dumped my doctor whom I secretly referred to as Dr. Jekyll, and now need to go to a more expensive one further away and it will cost me some big bucks to do it. Yesterday I went through the house gathering up all the stuff to sell. A friend is selling my last laptop for me.

Thanks everyone... ! I'm not seriously broken up by this.. I kinda needed a break.. I was in corporate America, for the past 2 years and i'm soooo not corporate material.. I just can't hang in penny loafers..lol.. Like I said, i'll have more time for the car, but more important is i'll have time to help out my mom and dad.. Dad had a bout with cancer over the winter, he's about 60% right now and mom had her nuckles replaced on one hand about 9mo ago, due to rumitoid arthritic.. So that will be nice... Not to mention the stuff I need to do around the house that's been neglected because of my 12hr a day commitment to this job (including drive time).. And lets not forget the garden... I'll have a killer garden this year.. lol.. I'll need it come fall i'm sure.. lol.. Thanks for all the well wishes, friends, means a lot... I'm gonna go sell some snow tires now... lol..

Here is hoping for great returns from the garden. It now appears that the layoffs for my company will be taking place two weeks from today. I have already ordered extra seeds, will double my garden if I am out of work. I keep talking that I will lose my job, because we do not know how they are making the decisions on which people to eliminate. If I still have my job, I will be "pleasantly disappointed"!
