Euphonium is a brass instrument. It's similar in shape and structure to a tuba, but obviously slightly higher in pitch. http://www.euph9.freeserve.co.uk/(The first site I found with a decent picture).
Cool.. I have been playing Euphonium for about 9 Years...I started when I first heard Steven Mead (Euphonium GOD) http://www.euphonium.net .. I saw him as a guest solo artist with a military band and BOY he was AWSOME..... Now I play euphonium somewhat for a living (Military Musician)....

When I was young, we called the euphonium a baritone. My dad plays one. He switched from trumpet when he was drafted, realizing that as a baritone player he'd have a better chance at playing in the army bands. From Kansas, he had the honor of playing in Dwight David Eisenhower's presidential band.He still plays, driving to Abilene KS every week during the summer to play with the Abilene city band. They play on Wednesdays, and then he plays with the Manhattan City Band on Thursdays. He's 75.KSNeptune

I'm not entirely positive, but I think only euphoniums have 4th valves (or atleast I've never seen a 4-valve baritone). Yes, I'm a reformed band geek, who played the baritone/euphonium for 8 years through school. I have a Yamaha euphonium thats been sitting here for 10 years and is in near mint condition if anybody wants to make me an offer.
Yes there is a difference.. The Euphonium is a conical bore instrument giving that more mellow Syrup tone where the baritone horn is cylindrical which have a bit more edge to the sound..Sort of like the same difference in tone between a flugal horn and a trumpet. As far as valves a Bariton Horn and Euphs can be 3 or 4 valves. Most people who are somewhat more experianced play on 4 valved horns.Mitro, I am playing on a Yamaha right now.. A YEP642 and I love it.. I also use to play on A Besson Prestige (I loved that Horn) but the Yamaha is serving me pretty well I hope to get a Custom Yamaha Euphonium sometime in the next year or so.. That or a Supercharger

That or a Supercharger Well ya learn something everyday. I had a feeling I was wrong about the 3 valve/4 valve thing but like I said I don't recall ever seeing a 4 valve Bari (But have seen 3 valve euphoniums). My Yamaha is a 321S (I just looked ) I dunno if thats good or bad. hehe. by the way I was never a 4th valve kinda guy... I was just 1-3 unless I was feeling daring. Gosh I'm sure everyone else is just riveted to this conversation. hehe
